What a brilliant weekend! Siblings weekend delivered as I got to hang out with my big Bro Paul Jones for a few days and be his support team at hyrox Birmingham. He did really well, learned some stuff the hard way. He didn’t even try and kill me when I laughed my ass off at his dramatics during the event. I mean also, he couldn’t…he never knowingly missed an opportunity to be dramatic that guy🤣🤣. Seriously though, he did a helluva job. It’s a tough event. I look forward to seeing him repeat Birmingham next year to get closer to the time he was after.

I shot over from Birmingham to Leicester to meet up with one of my oldest and dearest friends who is on a flying visit from South Africa to the UK and I couldn’t miss the chance to see him. I’m the godmother to his three children so I needed a good update. It’s one of those friendships that’s as strong and respectful and full of love and kindness today as it was when we met 25 years ago. I’m grateful for this bond and lucky to have friendships like this. Not everyone gets them. Their value is incalculable.

They were staying with some very kind family friends who also took me in for the night and were very excellent company.

The best treat of all was I got to see and have a proper talk with Emil’s most excellent Dad, my ‘Uncle’ Johan. We met 25 years ago and he and his beautiful wife ‘Aunty’ Di took me into their family and treated me like one of their own. My family lived in a different country so the Von Maltitz house became one of the two family homes during university vacations. Sometimes Emil would phone home (6-7 hour drive from our Uni) to find me already there hanging out with his folks 🤣🤣). We have since sadly lost Di, but Johan is one of life’s very best Old Boys. He’s tall, with kind eyes, a fascinatingly fast brain, a near permanent smile and a curiosity and wonder of life that you can’t help but engage with. His deep, booming voice, his easy laugh and that very definite twinkle in his eye means you’re always in good company with him.

What a treat to have some time with the Von M boys. My soul feels like it’s been spoiled this weekend, surrounded by good people.

When one of your PT clients knows you well enough to understand that registering their body’s response to yesterday’s pt session is the balm that soothes your soul…🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. . You can always count on me to bring the power to your legs my friend. Xx

I scored the most beautiful ceramic mug from the legendary on a recent visit to a craft market in Canada. I love the feel of it in my hand, it’s the perfect weight and the texture is really nice to hold too! Thank you so much Kira. I’m 100% a new and forever fan! I can’t wait to see what you go on to create next👌.

9 years ago today I finished my Personal Training course, took on my first client and jumped into self employed life. I hoped, when I started my little business, that I could build it into a project that would give me more time to do the things I wanted to do and challenge me to build something that was my very own.

Time flies when you’re having fun…

God, I can’t believe how far All Change PT has come: I’ve got the very very best clients and still LOVE the job. The set of peripheral services, including Sports Massage, Bikefitting and Physiological Assessments is growing, with a new service added every two years. Keep an eye open for news in the next few months of the latest new service to be built in. 😏

We’ll have a big old party next year shall we👌

I’ve been thinking about International Women’s Day all day today.

Sometimes I’m all in favour of it because we always need to do more to keep the equality of women in a predominantly patriarchal world, front and centre of people minds.

Other days I’m just so frustrated about the glacially slow pace of the development and protection of women’s rights when compared to the lightspeed with which women’s rights are being systematically disassembled in places like America (Land of the free, home of the brave…not even a little!). International Women’s Day feels like a pointless token gesture.

But you know what I keep coming back to?

I’m blessed to be surrounded by some of the most brilliant women. They are in my family, my friendship circles, my work life and my historical story. They’ve brought me up, lifted me up, held me accountable, taught me the most important things, challenged me in my behaviours and attitudes and picked me up when I’ve fallen over. The women in my life are brave and strong and batty and bonkers and silly and fun. They are kind and generous and open and challenging. They listen, they support, they argue and provide love and friendship and a sense of ‘we’ve got this’ in my life.

Maybe that’s what International Women’s Day is for me? It’s the fact that I’m so blessed to have brilliant women around me and I’ve found a place of such security that I’m now capable of reaching back and lifting up the people trying to get to the same place as me.

What a cool thought.

Here’s to all the bloody brilliant women. You know who you are. There are too many of you to tag. Xx

A big thumbs UP to for their service. I was trying to come back home from town at rush hour (after getting NOTHING from my to do list done in 4 hours of trying!🥴🤬) and couldn’t muster the enthusiasm for getting on a packed train at all but I walked past the city bike parking just outside the train station so I figured I’d give them a go and see how they worked.

Turns out they are really comfy to ride, the app is easy to use and there are three docking stations within 500m of my house. A journey that would have cost me £4 on a packed train was 5 mins faster and £1.50 cheaper by bike with no need to be squished into some business dudes armpit of an over crowded train.

Highly recommended!

Wow, it’s so good to be back in my office in the park today. With all the snow, I’ve had to move all the training into my office at in the last few weeks which has been a godsend, but goodness me it’s good to be back outside!!!!!!

Rested, refreshed and feeling ready to come back to real life after the most restorative vacation with my family on Vancouver Island. I always arrive with a busy head, overtired and over stretched. I always leave feeling like the reset button has been pressed. It’s like magic. I think it’s mostly because the family are such a tight knit unit and it’s a very warm, kind, comforting, funny, accepting unit to be part of.

I really need these reset vacations. No social media, no work. Just family time. Perfect. We walked, we played Frisby golf, we worked out, we swam, we paddle-boarded, we golfed, we drank gallons of tea and had our activities dictated by the 18month old dictator that is my nephew Adrian (man he is cute and on the go from 2.5seconds after he wakes up until way after he is due in bed!). We spent some time with all the Zimbabwean extended family and I had a Pappy-made omelette every day for 9 days of vacation. Ohhhhhh that is living my friends because my dad is a lot of things but the important thing is that he is the world champion of omelette making. I wish my other sisters had been able to join us.
