This week, our incredible Occupational Therapy (OT) teams have been busy showcasing the heart of OT — helping people do what matters most to them.

From Newsam Ward 5’s engaging displays and ‘Coffee and Connect’ outings, to Asket’s baking group (hello Yorkshire Parkin! 🍰) and community reintegration efforts, our OTs have gone above and beyond.

We’ve also celebrated the success of our community allotment group in partnership with Season Well 🌱 — growing, cooking, and sharing healthy meals together.

Across CREST, Recovery Centre, and Assertive Outreach Team , our community OTs have proudly presented their work at the Leeds City-Wide OT Conference, highlighting how we support individuals to rebuild meaningful lives beyond hospital walls.

Together, we’ve worn green 💚, shared stories, and reflected on our shared purpose: empowering people to live valued, independent lives in their communities.

Tuesday 11 November 2025 is Armistice Day. Our colleague Colette Campbell from our Forensic Services, has recorded a reading of ‘For the fallen’, a poem by Laurence Binyon. The poem was first published in September 1914 and sums up the heartache of a nation at the outset of World War 1. When families were saying goodbye to their loved ones, unsure if they’d ever see them again – but living in hope that they would.

At the end of the recording, Colette is pictured with her partner Rich, a Colonel and Commander Medical in the Royal Army Medical Corps. Rich has served in Iraq, Bosnia, Northern Ireland, and has received the Military Cross for one of his two deployments to Afghanistan. Their Armistice Day will be spent remembering those who Rich has known and lost during his 25 years of service.

Armistice is a Latin word meaning “an agreement between opposing armies to suspend hostilities in order to discuss peace terms; or a truce.” The Armistice was an agreement to end the fighting of the First World War as a prelude to peace negotiations. It began at 11am on 11 November 1918. Armistice Day is marked around the United Kingdom with a two-minute silence at 11am, on the 11th day, of the 11th month.

Armistice Day is particularly important to LYPFT as we are one of the few NHS trusts in England that provides the Veterans Mental Health and Wellbeing Service. Known as Op COURAGE, this service offers specialist care and support for those due to leave the armed forces, reservists and those who’ve already left.

Op COURAGE can support veterans and their loved ones with mental health issues if they have ever served in or are due to leave the UK armed forces.

“With love and pride, we remember and honour the sacrifice of those who gave their lives so that we might live ours in freedom. As a veteran and a member of Op COURAGE, I hold Remembrance Day close to my heart.” Estelle Hodgson.

Estelle is a Veteran Liaison Support Officer for Op COURAGE - the NHS Veterans Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (North of England Team). On Tuesday 11 November, the Trust will mark Armistice Day with services led by its chaplains.

Estelle served in the Royal Navy for five years and was deployed on HMS Albion. Her job is now to work directly with former armed services personnel who may be struggling with their mental health and would benefit from accessing Op Courage services. Studies from the UK show it takes between four and 14 years for veterans to reach out for help if they are struggling.

Op COURAGE can support veterans and their loved ones with mental health issues if they have ever served in or are due to leave the UK armed forces.

Throwback Thursday, to last weeks restart a Heart day! Kara Pugal, a Project Support Officer at LYPFT marks the day.

"Stepping back into school after nearly 15 years it was an honour as an advocate of to support this special day and raise awareness about sudden cardiac arrest and the importance of delivering CPR.

Every week in the U.K - 12 apparently fit and healthy young individuals under the age of 30 die from Sudden Cardiac Arrest. But with immediate treatment many lives can be saved and go on to survive ⏳

Every beat counts, and every life truly matters! Restart a Heart Day is not just about raising awareness, it’s a powerful reminder of how every one of us can make a difference by knowing life-saving CPR ❤️"

Our Chief Executive, Sara Munro, shares her personal experience of su***de within her family — and how it shapes her passion for mental health and su***de prevention.

People who care for others often forget to care for themselves.

Judith Barnes, our People Wellbeing Lead, shares how important it is for healthcare teams to open up about the emotional challenges of their work. 💬

“If left unaddressed, the impact can be long-lasting. Coming together to share and support one another helps us move forward.”

This , we’re reminding everyone: it’s okay to ask for help, and it’s okay to lean on your colleagues. 💚

Today, on , we’re sharing Steve’s story from the Baton of Hope tour in Leeds.

Steve reminds us that anyone can experience suicidal thoughts. His message is clear:

“We’ll only ever win the battle against su***de if people reach out before reaching breaking point.”

Talking helps. But just as importantly, being willing to listen can make all the difference.

Let’s keep these conversations going — because no one should ever feel alone. 💚
