We back the Mental Health Foundation’s call to end Scotland’s public mental health emergency.

Prevention must be at the heart of the next Scottish Government’s approach, ensuring support for children, young people and communities before they reach crisis point.

As our Scottish branch Chair Yana Yaneva says, "a psychological workforce that is 'fit for the future' and backed up by long-term sustainable funding" are essential to make this a reality.

For those signed off with long-term sickness, it’s vital recovery remains the priority.

Our president, Dr Roman Raczka, responds to the government's decision to place job advisors in GP surgeries and hospitals to support patients' return to work: "Many people with mental health problems who are signed off long-term sick, are keen to return to the workplace. However not all will be clinically well enough to be considering this, and the workplace itself can be a root cause of poor mental health.”

Members, we need your help to respond to the government's consultation on the 10 year plan.

We’re gathering examples of good practice that show psychology’s impact that align with their three key shifts:

Sickness to prevention

Analogue to digital

Hospital to community.

Your insights will help highlight the vital role psychologists play in building a more preventative, community-based model of care and the fantastic work already happening.
