🎗 October = Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎗
🔹 Did you know?
There are around 56,900 new cases of breast cancer in the UK each year.
Approximately 390‑400 men are diagnosed annually.
Sadly, over 2 in 5 women (≈ 44 %) in the UK don’t check their breasts regularly.
🩺 Checking yourself matters — and it’s for everyone.
Breast cancer is much less common in men, but men can get it. Knowing what’s “normal” for your body helps you spot changes early.
Here’s a simple self‑check routine (for all genders):
- Look in the mirror with your arms at your sides, then raised, then hands on hips — check for changes in size, shape, skin texture or dimpling.
- With your fingers flat, feel your breasts/chest and armpit — use light, medium and firmer pressure, covering the entire area.
- Gently squeeze the ni**le and check for discharge or changes.
- Lie down and feel each breast with your opposite hand, use circular or up‑and‑down motions.
- If you notice anything unusual — new lumps, swelling, skin changes, ni**le changes, pain or discharge — don’t wait. Contact your GP.
