Our Sign & Rhyme session at Bagworth Community Centre this morning had that lovely, gentle buzz that only a room full of babies and toddlers can create🥰. So thank you all for coming along today for making it such a lovely morning🥰.
Huge congratulations to one of our lovely mums who has given birth to a gorgeous little boy❤️. We wish you all the very best and we shall all look forward to meeting him sometime in the near future🥰. Take care xx
We had excited squeals, lots and lots of smiles and of course great singing and signing from everyone🥰. The children were amazing with sharing the toys, waiting for their turns and joining in with all the activities❤️. It was lovely to see one of our youngest little boys looking, and trying to reach for one of our song props🥳. Well done x
Our signs for this week were 'WAIT' and 'YOUR TURN/MY TURN'. These are such important signs to use, as they support and develop a child's early interaction skills🥰, and they are so easy to use within their daily routines☺️.
Here are some easy tips for using these signs
WAIT - Play a READY STEADY Go game with cars🚗🚕 . Each of you have a car to push, when you are ready say, 'READY STEADY GO', if your child pushes his/her car before GO, say and sign 'WAIT' then have another try🥳. This also helps to support and develop their attention skills.
WAIT - When your child is very eager to try out the slide and there are other children before him/her, say and sign 'WAIT'
When we pass the instruments around, your children are understanding 'WAITING'🥳. Sometimes they come up to the box and try to take one before it is their turn, but when they hear the gentle word 'WAIT' they will put it back and wait for their turn. So as you can see by using words consistently they are understanding language🥰.
YOUR TURN/MY TURN - Roll the ball game. You can do this as a family, take turns rolling the ball to each other ⚽️. The adult starts with the ball, say and sign 'MY TURN' , then roll the ball to your child and say and sign 'HARRY'S TURN', continue this by taking turns with each member of the family. This game also helps to support and develop their eye contact👀.
YOUR TURN/MY TURN - Take turns playing the drum, your child has a turn first, you say and sign 'HARRY'S TURN', he then has to pass the drum to you and you say and sign 'MUMMY'S TURN'.
There may be tears at this point as he/she may not want to give it up just yet, but it's important for you to have a turn even if it's just a quick bang on the drum, as this will help with his understanding of taking turns😍.
We rounded off the morning with our circle songs - always a favourite with the little ones🤩.
STOP song - One of our young girls did a great job of spontaneously holding up her hand and saying 'STOP' when we had to 'STOP' and keep very still for a few moments 🤩. Well done to you, I think she is after my job 🤣.
A lovely way to spend the morning, that was full of small but meaningful moments 💕. Well done everyone xx
I shall look forward to seeing you all again next Wednesday🥰.
Happy signing, have a great week.
