Middle-Ear Infection Revealed in 9-Year-Old Post Ear Wax Removal using the WAXscope®️ 👂🦠🧒

This 9-year-old attended with hearing loss and discomfort, initially believed to be due to impacted ear wax.

After safely removing the wax using the WAXscope®️, I discovered signs of a middle-ear infection (otitis media) — including a dull, inflamed eardrum and visible middle-ear fluid.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Seema Rupani Shah all the way from , today who attended our Clearwax - Ear Wax Removal Specialists Cerumen Management Course for training using the ®️.

Seema is an experienced and her father is a renowned in Kenya. She performs basic removal of currently using and with a head lamp, but really wanted to upskill her skills.

It’s safe to say that none of them will be reverting back to their current method of visualisation when performing .

They were all blown away by the magnification, clarity and focus that both the ®️ and ®️ provided them!

🎉 Incredible work by Deborah Guy during today’s WAXscope®️ training session!

Today, Deborah successfully performed a complex ear clearance on a patient suffering from chronic Otitis Externa in the left ear — a challenging case marked by significant swelling, inflammation, and a canal full of debris and dead skin.

Due to the swelling, inserting a specula was particularly difficult. Deborah initially felt nervous, as this is not a procedure she would typically perform using her head loupes. In fact, when she examined the ear using her loupes, visibility was so limited that the suction tip would have obscured her view of the debris entirely.

However, with the WAXscope®️ and our Size 1 (3.5mm) specula, Deborah was able to clearly visualise both the debris and suction tip throughout the procedure. The open slot at the roof of the specula allowed her to insert the suction tip from a higher angle relative to the optical axis — a design feature that made all the difference in this complex case.

👏 Well done, Deborah! You demonstrated exceptional skill and confidence — an inspiring example of how the right tools can empower clinicians to deliver better patient outcomes.

The power of the …

One of our Clearwax - Ear Wax Removal Specialists delegates attended today with a complex ear history.

Currently suffering from a head cold causing Otitis Media with Effusion.

They have a severely retracted tympanic membrane both anteriorly and posteriorly, the latter draped over the long process of the incus which appeared partially eroded, as did the short process of the malleus, due to bony remodelling as a result of their longstanding process.

The middle-ear effusion was pulsating cardio-synchronously. They later blew their nose causing visible air bubble accumulation in the middle-ear.

The Zook function on the WAXscope really captured this…
