Stabilize, stabilize, stabilize
A strong body is a stable body, less likely to get injured.
Function, mobility and strength are key for a happy body.

Little niggles left unchecked can soon turn into problems and even secondary problems.
Movement is key, get to know your body, what is normal for you? Is this the best it can be? What doesn't feel right? What feels really good?

Let's move! So ultimately you can run, dance and play! 😁💃🕺

Phil...What a legend!...💪🙌

Have you been using the gym a lot and think Pilates is a load of old rubbish?
You'd be surprised at how much Pilates can inform and improve your gym work.
Phil came to us with multiple issues, including hip, shoulder and knee. The change has been amazing, improved mobility, improved strength and most importantly no pain!.

How amazing is this...Love it!

"I can't do Pilates because I'm not flexible"

This is a common one....it's a shame that people shy away from Pilates because they think they need to be flexible.
That's like saying "I can't learn to drive a car because I can't drive" that's precisely why you need to learn, so that you can do the 'thing'

Pilates isn't all about flexibility, yes you will improve your range of motion but you will also gain so much more.

Agility, coordination, strength, balance....all these things come hand in hand with each other.

Pilates meets you where you are at, which is why everyone should be doing Pilates!
Pilates is a lifestyle to enhance your life. If you feel you are inflexible then it's a sign that your body is calling you to do something about it.

So we are often asked what do we do for exercise, how often do we do Pilates? What other things do we do?

So Pilates for me works little and often, I try to keep a consistent practice, daily or every other day and don’t beat myself up if I can only get 20-30mins in, sometimes if I’m really busy I may just do 3 exercises on different pieces of equipment depending on what my body needs that day.

We also go to the gym as I believe cardiovascular health is extremely important, which Pilates can’t really give you if you are working true to the method.

Treadmills, Elliptical trainer, Bike..
usually 30-45mins in total.
If using the weight machines our practice is very much informed by our Pilates. How am I standing? Am I engaged in my body before I engage the weight.
I never compromise form for weights.
i.e form first, if I can keep my form then I can add weights. Form first, weight second.

Ultimately what is your personal goal? For me I want longevity, I want to grow older gracefully, I want to feel agile and energised, and feel ‘good’ mentally and physically.
This requires me to be kind. What does my body need today? Some days it’s gentle, others I can really push and feel good. It’s a balancing act but always progressive, although this is not always linear.

Work smart. Feel good. Have fun!

Do you have fun when doing your Pilates? If not why not?
Is your expectation for yourself too high? Are you comparing your self to others? Are you not feeling ‘the burn’ that you think should be there?

Let’s answer some of these …

Everyday is a new day, your body is different from day to day, week to week, yes we can look to improve, but what does improvement look like to you, and what is your ultimate goal? Remember Pilates is an ongoing practice, we often don’t look ‘back’ at where we came from, we only see the things that are ‘wrong’. Be kind to yourself and know you are making small improvements that will ultimately keep your body fit for ‘life’

What someone else is doing is none of your business…
Sure we can look to feel inspired and motivated but if that comparison doesn‘t feel ’good’ then it’s none of your business... focus on what is feeling good in ‘your’ body.

Feeling the ‘burn’ of exercise doesn’t always mean you are working ‘correctly’ for your body. Sometimes it’s the subtle detail, the connections you make in your body which will get you out of pain, or leave you feeling more energised. Don’t be fooled .. Pilates is hard, but it’s the quality that matters, yes you can sometimes feel sore afterwards but not always. It doesn’t mean it’s not working.

Be kind. Be smart. Have fun!

If it ain't broke don't fix it..... The Pilates Method has been working since the 1920's (then called Contrology). The method is the method because it works, get deeper into understanding the method and how it presents in your body and you'll find there is 'always' something else to be working on, something new to discover.
No two days are the same, as we evolve our bodies evolve and the Pilates method can be used as an anchor, a foundation from which we can consistently develop a body we can rely on.

It is a known fact that exercise can help you to sleep, well Pilates is no different. Moving and mobilising your joints through full range of motion, stretching and activating muscles, focusing on physical detail and quality of movement, moving stagnant areas and energy by breathing better, all help to keep your body functioning at its best. When your body is physically in a good place, this aids better sleep, and better sleep aids better repair of the tissues in the body.
All round a win win 💪
