EMDR - Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing

Have you been thinking of trying EMDR?
Perhaps you have never heard of it?

EMDR has been proven to help with PTSD and Trauma, it helps the brain to reprocess memories in a healthier way. The memories don't have to be from big events, they can be any memory that causes any level of distress to you.

Here at Trust in counselling we have a trained member of staff and 2 staff currently undergoing EMDR training and able to offer EMDR sessions to help you reprocess any distressing memories.

National Grief Awareness Week
2nd - 8th December 2025

Child Bereavement UK have some amazing resources to help parents and Teachers navigate conversations with children and young people around death and grief. Many people avoid conversations through fear of saying something wrong or upsetting them by mentioning the person who has died. Often the avoidance hurts the griever more than talking about their loved one, it's important we become more comfortable talking abut grief as it is an inevitable part of life, one we can not run and hide from no matter how hard we may try.

Taboos and awkwardness around talking about death and dying can prevent people from being supportive to grieving friends and family. Our short animated film 'Room for an elephant' has been created to help support bereaved young people after someone important to them has died.

Help us raise awareness by voting for the film in the Charity Film Awards

National Grief Awareness Week
2nd - 8th December 2025

We will all experience grief at some point in our lives, as the only thing certain in life, is that one day we will all die. But as we continue to live, we will grieve those that have gone before us, grief is unique to each and every one of us and to the different people who may die before us.

Sometimes grief can be complex and complicated because of the circumstances in which someone has died or because of how the relationship was both good and bad. We never stop grieving, for each person who dies before us, we will continue to process the grief as long as we continue to live. We just get used to carrying the weight of the grief and grow around it.

National Grief Awareness Week 2nd-8th December Posted on 2nd December, 2025 National Grief Awareness Week – 2nd to 8th December National Grief Awareness Week encourages us to recognise the impact of grief and to support anyone who may be finding things difficult after a loss. Social Media is great to help people reconnect, but it also comes with a down side, we only see snippets of other people's lives and often use that information to compare ourselves and where we are in life, to the filtered version of what people want us to see, which can have a massive impact on our self esteem.

It's important to remember we don't know the full story, that we are all different and on our own unique journeys in life.

It is fast approaching the festive time of year.

People can assume everyone enjoys Christmas and is looking forward to it. But, for many people Christmas is far from a happy time of year, it may be they have lost a loved one and it is too painful to celebrate without them.

There is also a significant increase in domestic abuse calls to the emergency services, there will also be many more not reported. So for many people, for many reasons they may be dreading Christmas this year.

It has also become the time of year many people end up even further in debt, because of the pressures of having to buy presents, many which are never actually used.

Remember Be Kind, you never know what other people are dealing with that they don't talk about and the best things in life are free, the best gift you can give to someone is your time and attention.

This week is Children's Grief Awareness Week, 17th -23rd November 2025

Children can experience significant losses in their young lives and often don't have the vocabulary to explain how they are feeling. They may often bottle things up, because they don't want to worry other people, if they are aware they are struggling with the grief too.

Counselling can help offer a safe space to children and young people, to talk about the impact of their grief and help them process it in a healthy way. Continuing bonds with those we have loved and lost, can help CYP to make sense of their grief and keep the memory of their loved one alive.

We have a team of counsellors, who are experienced in not only working with children and young people, but also specialise in bereavement. Contact us at www.trustincounselling.co.uk to discuss how we maybe to help.

What do you do for self care?

Getting out for a walk either on your own or with your furbaby if you have one, can do wonders for your mental health. Especially this time of year, the colours of autumn are so lovely and warm, even on a chilly day.

Little tip to help with anxiety.

When your walking really listen to the sounds around you, life is so busy and hectic, we don't give our senses time to absorb the sounds of nature, which can be grounding and help ease symptoms of stress and anxiety.

It's amazing how changing the words we use, can change our perspective on how we see something.

We may tell ourselves we can't do things, that it's too hard, that we're no good at it, or that we made a mistake and then tell ourselves we should give up. This type of thinking can lead us to negative thoughts and feelings about ourselves.

If we are able to change the words we use, we can change our mindset on how we perceive a situation and ultimately how we see ourselves.
Instead of saying
I can't - try I'm still learning, which enables us to keep trying.
This is too hard - try with more practice it will get easier.
I'm not good at this - try This may take some time and effort.
I made a mistake - try mistakes help me learn.
I give up - try I can try a different strategy.

Sometimes its how we talk to ourselves that can be the difference between a negative and positive mindset. The trick is when you catch yourself having negative thoughts, ask yourself would I talk to a family member, friend or colleague in this way? if not, how would you talk to them and offer yourself the same compassion you would to other people, you deserve to be kind to yourself too, but as human beings we can be our own worst critics.

Self Care

What do you do to practice self care?

Life can get so hectic, it's easy to get caught up in the rat race and lose ourselves, busy parenting, busy keeping house, busy working, busy being everything to everyone else, the list goes on. But when do you have time for you, to look after you and do things that recharge your batteries and bring joy into your life?

There's a reason we get told to put our own oxygen masks on in the safety advice on a plane, because in order to be able to look after others, we have to look after ourselves 1st. A lot of people consider self care as selfish or indulgent, but it's vital for our mental wellbeing, you can't pour from an empty cup as the saying goes, you have to learn to fill yours 1st in order to fill into other peoples.

Just getting out for a walk in nature can help you feel better, taking in the sounds, sights and smells of nature, can help to ground you, and give you that space to reflect on your life.

Bereavement Counselling

Death is an inevitable part of life, we will all experience the loss of loved one at some point in our lives. Some losses can be hard to navigate on our own, because of the complexities of the grief, bereavement counselling can help us to process our grief in healthier ways, if we have been struggling to cope with the weight of carrying it.

Grief is very different for each and every one of us, it is also different for each loved one who dies, depending on the relationship we have with them. Some times grief can be complicated because of the complexities of the relationships we may have had with the person who has died, or because of how they died, talking to a counsellor can offer us a safe space to explore the relationship and help us to find ways of being able to move through the grief.
