LED lighting reduces energy consumption in the MRI suite

Designed and supplied by Envirotect, enviro-Bright is an MRI compatible LED lighting system for MRI illumination and is said to be a popular addition to recent RF projects.

The LED light panels are lightweight and wired ready to mount by a suitably qualified electrician. The panels fit into a standard 600 x 600mm ceiling frame and are unaffected by the strong magnetic fields created by MRI scanners, so are suitable for imaging suites.

Manging director Niven Smith said “With many conscious of increasing energy bills it is more important than ever to look into upgrading your current lighting system. Advantages of switching to LED lighting is improved efficiency and a long lifespan; enviro-Bright lighting systems help to reduce energy consumption whilst still creating a comfortable atmosphere with optimum visibility for staff and patients within an MR imaging suite.”

The system is supplied as a package and comes with emergency backup located in the control panels. All enviro-Bright MRI lighting systems include fitting instructions, a wiring diagram and emergency luminaire installation and maintenance record.

Inspections of RF doors ensure correct operation

Envirotect says it is seeing an increase in requests for RF door maintenance packages.

MRI contracts manager Howard Nutkins has been carrying out inspections throughout the UK, helping to minimise interruptions to services. He said: “It is important that any issues with an RF door are dealt with quickly and efficiently. Regular professional cleaning and lubrication can extend the life of an RF door and ensure maximum shielding performance and correct operation.”

Periodically the RF fingers or gasket will require replacement to maintain the best shielding performance and Envirotect can replace these on a range of doors.

Inspections can be scheduled around busy periods to avoid disruption. After inspection the company will submit a proposal if any repairs are required and make recommendations to enhance the service life of the RF door.

Envirotect gains CHAS Advanced accreditation

Envirotect has been awarded CHAS Advanced accreditation, which demonstrates compliance in line with SSIP core criteria and UK health and safety legislation as well as full compliance with nine modules of PAS91.

CHAS sets the standard for craftsmanship, risk management and safety in the workplace. Nationally recognised, CHAS accreditation provides customers and contractors with the assurance that work will be completed to high standards.

“Achieving CHAS Advanced accreditation opens a wealth of opportunities for us,” explained Enviotect managing director Niven Smith. “It helps to streamline the process of securing contracts with prospective customers as they are able to see that we are an approved business straight away, without the need for a pre-qualification questionnaire.”

To become CHAS Advanced accredited businesses must undertake 10 assessment modules covering health and safety; financial; insurance; environmental; quality management; equality; diversity and inclusion; anti-bribery and corruption; modern slavery; corporate professional standing; and identity.

RF cage is 50th for “popular” MRI Scanner

Envirotect has secured an order for the installation of an RF cage to house its 50th Siemens Healthineers Magnetom Sola 1.5T MRI Scanner. Managing director Niven Smith explained: “This is our 50th RF cage installation to house a Magnetom Sola 1.5T MRI Scanner.

“This particular system helps healthcare providers to perform a full range of routine and complex MR examinations while accelerating workflow and delivering consistent results. Although other MRI scanners are available, the Sola appears to be a popular choice within the healthcare industry.”

Envirotect’s copper MRI shielding system is manufactured at their premises in Leighton Buzzard. Framework for the cage is manufactured in panels before being transported to site and moved into position, where small adjustments are made before final installation. Manufacturing the panels, window and door in advance saves time on site during tight build schedules. Contracts manager Howard Nutkins visits site at least once to verify conditions and dimensions, which helps to ensure the accurate manufacture of a custom room.
