Sara La Rocca Yoga

Sara La Rocca Yoga Yoga is for everybody. Using a series of postures and working with the breath, yoga aims to strengthen our bodies as well as our minds.

Yoga invites us to breathe, to be in our bodies and in the moment, finding balance and harmony within ourselves.

So so lovely teaching the lovely students that joined me online this morn 😍

I invited them to slow things down, allowing space to tune into what is going on with the body and the breath as we move through each pose.

I find slowing things down doesn't make yoga any easier, if anything it's that bit more challenging to find stillness in the pose, keep focus, quiet the mind (not to mention holding poses for longer is a challenge for the body itself). Letting the breath guide you is a great place to start 👌

We'll keep slowing things down in this month's classes yoga, which makes it totally suitable for complete beginners too! If you want to give yoga a go, join us! 😊✌️

Online weekly classes:
CHAIR YOGA: WED 8:30-9 AM
VINYASA YOGA: SAT 10:30-11:30 AM

Hello my friends :)
Here's my go-to morning flow that I'd like to share with you :) I really love having a set sequence I don't need to think too much about and can instead focus on the breath and connect with the momevement of the body. Let me know how it goes!

PS: For the meditation at the end of the practice, a great tip if you are new to meditation is to set a timer, starting with one minute and then increasing the time slowly so you are not distracted by how long you should or should not sit in stillness for. Enjoy!

This is Yoga too.
And it feels soooo good.
But why?

To understand what happens in Savasana (final relaxation) we need to think about the autonomic nervous system- the part of the nervous system that controls involuntary actions, such as the beating of the heart and rate of the breath. Two subdivisions of this are the sympathetic (“fight or flight”) and the parasympathetic (“rest & digest”) nervous systems. They are the balancing act that ensures we have just the right amount of stress to function optimally in our lives. When we are stressed at work, or rushing from one thing to the next, or exercising, our bodies use our “fight or flight” system triggering the body to flood itself with adrenaline and cortisol. This is a necessary function, however too much of this heightened nervous state can start to impact our health negatively.

The practice of Savasana is the gradual relaxation of the body and mind. As the heart rate and breath start to slow down, the parasympathetic system switches on, ushering a wave of deep relaxation. And this my friends, is where the magic happens ✨
Join me for some extra long savasana practice in this week’s online classes:

This weekend I taught my 100th class.

To think that when my whole being told me I should become a yoga teacher, my fears told me I could never confidently stand in front of a class and teach yoga. My internal monologue (summarised) went something like this: “NO WAY! na ah. Girrrrrl, that is EXACTLY why you’ve gotta do this, for yourself if for nothing else”. So I went to Yoga teacher training (still not believing I would teach once qualified). But this is the thing, most things don’t happen over night. But rather step by step, bit by bit. Make that first step and see where it leads you. And you end up discovering so much about yourself. In this past year of teaching I have felt frustrated, got confused, felt up, down, happy, sad and so much more. But I can honestly say I love teaching, and am so grateful to all those who have been part of my journey so far, and to all my students who keep coming back 🙏🏻

Here’s to the next 💯!
