The number 108 holds profound significance across Eastern traditions, representing the 108 energy lines (nadis) converging at the heart chakra, 108 sacred scriptures (Upanishads), and 108 marma points (vital points) in Ayurveda.
Key Reasons for 108 Repetitions:
Cosmic Significance: In Vedic cosmology, the distance between the Earth and Sun is ~108 times the Sun's diameter, and the distance between the Earth and Moon is ~108 times the Moon's diameter. It is also derived from 12 zodiac signs multiplied by 9 planets.
Spiritual Anatomy: It is believed that there are 108 energy lines (nadis) forming the heart chakra, and that chanting 108 times clears these channels, aiding in spiritual awakening.
Structure of Consciousness: The Sanskrit alphabet has 54 letters, each with a masculine (Shiva) and feminine (Shakti) aspect, totaling 108.
