Valentine Voice Care

Valentine Voice Care A multidisciplinary centre dedicated to the care & support of professional voice users.

Kate Valentine specialises in vocal massage, laryngeal manual therapy, vocal health, and injury prevention. A passionate ambassador for vocal health, it is her mission to help remove the mystery and stigma surrounding vocal wellbeing and injury, and to provide a safe space for clients to help them with their journey – whichever part of that journey they are on. Whilst enjoying a successful career as a principal artist on the international operatic stage she sustained a vocal injury: a career-defining moment which sparked a fascination with vocal health, rehabilitation, and the long-term benefits of manual therapy for voice. She qualified as Sports Massage therapist before studying VoiceRelease Massage© with Luise Breyer-Aiton in Switzerland, and Vocal Massage, Manuel Therapy and Laryngeal Manipulation with Stephen King at the renowned Voice Care Centre in London. As well as running her own practice ‘Valentine Voice Care’ in Lewes, East Sussex and managing a busy client list including English National Opera, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Scottish Opera, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, and The Dunedin Consort, Kate also works in two multidisciplinary teams: the Voice Care Centre (London) and Clyde Consulting Rooms (Glasgow)

🫶🏼This bitter earth may not be so bitter after all

I have been listening to this song, and this stunning arrangement in particular, on repeat recently. It’s melancholic but full of hope and love.

It’s been a year, hasn’t it? For small businesses like ours, for our industry, for us as human beings trying to navigate this harsh and unpredictable world. And just like that, it’s Christmas!

But remember this - we’ve got each other, and that makes all the difference. There is always support - we just have to be brave enough to ask for it.

As we sign off for the Christmas break I’d like to offer my heartfelt thanks to all of you for trusting VVC. Your trust truly means everything. It’s what allows us to keep doing this work we do: supporting our industry and all those who sail within her. You’ve got us just as much as we’ve got you. We know that. We feel it. Thank goodness for community.

Time for all of us to switch off, to be with the people we love, and recharge for 2026.

🎄Merry Christmas from all of us at VVC 🎄

Calling mature singers! Do you love singing? Are you part of a local choir but wondering what you can do to improve your vocal technique and maintain vocal strength between sessions? Are you sometimes perplexed about the way your voice behaves? Do you struggle to project your voice like you used to?

Our larynx ages as the rest of our body does, but like the rest of our body, we can continue to “workout” our vocal instrument to maintain as much strength and flexibility as possible. Why not do this in a small group session with like-minded people and a highly experienced vocal instructor?

Meet your facilitator, Gillian Ramm. Gillian is a classical soprano with over 30 years of professional performance experience behind her as well as 20 years of teaching experience. She is a qualified Singing Voice Rehabilitation specialist and a major voice nerd. This means she spends hours researching and reading about the latest strategies to help singers of all ages and stages keep their voices in the best possible shape.

This class is not a choir. This is about understanding how your voice works and what you CAN do with it now, rather than worrying about what you can’t do. It’s about implementing evidence-based strategies for vocal maintenance that really work. It’s also about connecting and having a good laugh in the process.

Each class works as a standalone, so you don’t have to attend every week, but most people see the most consistent improvement when they attend at least 3 sessions.

"I went for a vocal massage while touring with Tina: The Musical, and Michael Mandalios was brilliant. We talked during the first part of the session so he could assess my needs and work accordingly, and I felt very at ease the entire time. He explained everything he was going to do before doing it, which I really appreciated.

After the session, I felt much more freedom in my neck and jaw. I highly recommend him for singers on tour."

We always love to hear about the impact our practitioners have made on people's lives.

~Staying vocally well this winter~

When illness strikes, your body needs extra energy to recover—and your voice is no exception. It may feel more tired, strained, or vulnerable than usual. These are some ways to support your vocal health while you heal.

If you notice a negative change in your voice that doesn’t improve after 3–4 weeks, speak to your GP. You can request a referral to a specialist voice clinic. A list of NHS voice clinics is available on the British Voice Association website.
