Recently our dentist George and nurse Penny visited Aysgarth School, where they taught the Early Years group how to brush correctly, make healthy choices and care for their teeth, whilst having lots of fun. The children really enjoyed dressing up as dentists and were fascinated with a 3D image of their teeth!

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, and it’s a great time to focus on building strong oral care habits for your little ones
As a parent, early attention to your child’s dental hygiene can set them up for a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums. Whether it’s starting with gum care before their teeth appear or preparing for their first dental visit, these early steps are key to ensuring a healthy smile from the very beginning.

Brush teeth: Brush your child’s teeth at least twice a day for at least two minutes. Use toothpaste with at least 1450ppm fluoride.
Floss: Start flossing when your child’s teeth start to touch, which is usually around ages 2-3.
Eat healthy: Encourage your child to eat a balanced diet with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.
Drink water: Drink water after meals and snacks to wash away food particles and prevent dry mouth.
Reduce sugar: Limit sugary drinks and treats, and only eat them at meal times.
Get regular check-ups: Make sure your child has regular dental check-ups and hygiene cleans. It is also important to have positive conversations with children about visiting the dentist so they enjoy the experience.
