🗣️Initially we’ll have a discussion so I can learn more about your daily activities, occupation, fitness levels, general health and hobbies.

Next, I’ll take a thorough account of your current injury and your goals.

Following this, an objective assessment will be performed. This will assess your movement and function, leading to tests which will rule in/out certain conditions (ideally bring shorts/leggings and a vest top).

We will work hard to find and treat the underlying cause, not just the symptoms!

After this we will get onto a course of action to help you, ultimately the goal is to return the client back to optimal function, so that you can continue with your daily life activities, occupation or sport 🏋️‍♀️🚴‍♀️🏌️‍♀️🏊‍♀️👩‍💻👨‍🍳🚶🏻‍♀️🪡

Any questions, hit me up! 🙌

Mental health is as important as your physical health, if not more to be honest!
What is really needed is better resources, more funding, less waiting times and more time spent into researching why this is happening and remedies (hello government 🙄)

In the meantime, do you what you can to help yourself. I don’t need to list out self care ideas as it’s different for everyone, but following pages like can be a useful reminder 👍

Encourage people to get help, but don’t forget to reach out to and check they’re okay, as we all know it’s so hard to ask for help.

I recently completed the online Mental Health Awareness for Sport and Physical Activity course through UK Coaching (you don’t need to be a coach) and su***de awareness training through Zero Su***de Alliance, all of which were very useful and I would recommend.
Take care of yourselves 💙

Finally something different 🙌
It seems fairly easy to write a running book. Write about the story of the Marathon, write about the Spartathlon, Marathon des Sables 😴 all great but it’s been done to death. What about the thousands of runners who are the bulk of this running boom? So many who are mainly doing it for their mental health and races often come as a bonus? I really enjoyed this by Bella Mackie who explains the raw reality of anxiety and the mental health benefits of running, without having to do the Western States 100 or run a million miles 👍 A good read 😌
P.S. I know I’m slightly late to the party reading this

I’ve been meaning to write this for a while but has already done it for me! 😁
Think you need a physio? It’s likely a sports therapist can help you too, we specialise in musculoskeletal injuries! 🙌

“Do you need a Sports Therapist OR a Physiotherapist?
Sports therapists always get referred to as ‘physio’ just because it’s easy to say but the differences between the 2 aren’t that different.
Sports Therapy, according to ‘The society of sports therapists’ (governing body), is ‘concerned with the prevention, rehabilitation and treatment of the patient back to optimal occupational and/ or sports specific fitness’. Physiotherapy, according to the chartered society of physiotherapists, ‘is a rehabilitation profession that promotes improvement in quality of life through diagnosis, examination and treatment’. Very similar is you ask me!
___________________________
Sports therapy applies a lot of similar skills and techniques that you would find from a physiotherapist such as massage, exercises prescription, electro therapy, physical therapy and many more.
What sets them apart?
Physiotherapy is more ‘medical’ with use of a better word. Physiotherapist are trained to deal with the initial recovery of serious medical condition such as heart attack, strokes or some kind of neurological/ respiratory disease. Where as sports therapist are trained to deal with muscular-skeletal injuries, with that in mind, that doesn’t rule out sports therapist with working with more complex condition after the initial treatment.
___________________________
So if you have a dodgy shoulder or a bad knee whether it is sport related or lifestyle related maybe you should consider a sports therapist first. Plus probably cheaper too!”

Most physios and STs go on to do various further training so as I always say, please do your research into your therapist!

The Tensor Fascia Latae (TFL) is a muscle I try and teach lots of clients about.
It assists with hip flexion, medial rotation and abduction (leg going outwards)
The TFL is a small superficial muscle that doesn't get much attention but can affect a lot.
It’s located on the outside of the upper thigh and originates from the iliac crest (curved part of pelvis), it then attaches to the gluteus maximus and into the IT band which lies down the side of the thigh ⬇️
So next time you feel like foam rolling the ITB because it feels "tight", or you're starting to get symptoms of iliotibial band syndrome, go for the TFL with a massage/tennis/cricket/golf ball instead for a bit of temporary relief before booking in for your appointment.
WARNING ⚠️ It's a tender one
Do you have questions about your symptoms?

Why all the questions?! 🤔
Before we can help you, we need to ask a whole lotta stuff 📝 Particularly in your first appointment, we need to know all about your medical history, your lifestyle and the injury you’ve come into clinic with. This isn’t to be nosy! We use this to really get to the nitty gritty and find out what may be causing or contributing to your problems. Please don’t worry about telling us ANYTHING! It’s all completely confidential with no judgment, even if it’s not in the consultation and you just want to vent! I do this to you guys too so 😂 It’s best we know all the details to give you the very best help we can 😊

Should a sports massage hurt? 🤔
Not necessarily. I’ve had countless clients coming in apprehensive because they’ve had such awful experiences. At the end of the day, you do not come in for me to hurt you. For most people, sports massage is a bit uncomfortable and sometimes painful, but it should NEVER be unbearable. Most people describe it as a “good pain” and you know the difference. I always always only give the pressure that is needed, so it’s not always even uncomfortable, especially when you have them regularly 🙌
We need to get the idea out of people’s heads that pain = good sports massage! Find someone who knows what they’re doing and HELP by sharing the message! 📱

The Quadratus Lumborum (QL)
That muscle you’ve never heard of (unless you’re one of my clients) and can cause so much discomfort 😖
You have one either side and it’s located between the bottom rib and the top of your pelvis, technically an abdominal muscle (the deepest) but if it’s bothering you, you’ll feel it in your lower back.
Pain in this area can be caused by (but not limited to) overuse during activity or sitting in positions for a long period of time in a car or at a desk. Other components that may contribute are weak or inhibited glutes/core/other back muscles which can cause the QL to overcompensate and become fatigued.
This often results in localised pain and muscle spasms which can refer to other areas such as the buttocks, hip joints and thighs ⚡️
Sound familiar? Drop me a message, face to face appointments will resume shortly 💙
