🤰🏽🎄 🍖 C H R I S T M A S F O O D 🍖🎄🤰🏽
Navigating the Christmas table just became a bit easier with this run down of foods for those with a festive bun in the oven…..
🦠 Listeriosis and Salmonella are often the culprits of food poisoning and are the reason for avoiding certain foods when pregnant to avoid complications/illness 🤢
🥩 🧀 Cured meats & mould ripened cheese- it’s best to avoid the charcuterie board this year. You can, however have Camembert & Brie if baked in the oven & piping hot (delish!!) 🥖 🫕
Undercooked & cured meats should be avoided due to a small chance of Toxoplasmosis which can be linked to certain pregnancy complications & miscarriage.
🦐 🦞 Seafood- Shark, swordfish and marlin are to be avoided due to high mercury content, but cooked prawns, lobster, crab, scallops and all other cooked fish is absolutely fine to eat. Cold smoked salmon/gravlax should also be avoided due to the way it is cured 💨
Raw shellfish and seafood should be avoided due to the risk of bacteria, viruses and toxins ❌
🦃 🐓 Roast meats- Remember to ensure all meat is cooked thoroughly (no rare/pink steak, lamb, duck 🦆) meat juices must always run clear! This is due to Toxoplasmosis, as mentioned above 👆🏼
🍞 Patê- all types of patê (even vegetable) should be avoided due to listeria risk. Liver patê especially can also contain high levels of Vitamin A which can be harmful to baby 👶🏽
🌱 🍈 Raw sprouts & Cantaloupe melon (aka the orange-inside-one)- did you know that eating raw sprouts and Canteloupe isn’t recommended during pregnancy due to a small risk of (you guessed it!) Listeria 🦠)? Ensure all raw veggies and salad is well washed, too 🚿
🍳 Eggs- raw or soft eggs/yolks are fine to eat as long they’re Lion stamped (& in date 📅)
🍷 🥂 Alcohol- there is no safe alcohol amount when pregnant. Thankfully, there are lots of fairly decent alcohol-free options to choose from! Wild fox Prosecco gets a big thumbs up! 👍🏼 🥂 (& no hangover 🤕 🥇)
