I’ve been pretty quite on her again recently but I’ve still been a busy bee 🐝 and here’s why…

Bodyscape Therapies and Pilates 🧘🏼‍♀️ is my own little business which I run alongside my school teaching where I work as a specialist dyslexia literacy teacher 👩🏼‍🏫. Not to mention being a mum to 3 still relatively young boys 👦🏻👦🏻👦🏻, recovering from a car accident, eventually having a shoulder operation, spending time with family (both near and far), turning 40 😳, and raising these gorgeous, fluffy ragdoll kittens (who are looking for a loving home if you know of anyone)!

Most of my friends and family know how much I love a course and a couple of the courses I’ve undertaken this year include:
⭐️ Reflexology for menopause
⭐️ Pilates for menopause
⭐️ Stretch therapy Pilates

Courses for 2023 will be:
⭐️ Pilates & Shoulder Rehabilitation - I wonder why 🤣
⭐️ Reformer on the Mat

All things social media tend to fall by the wayside, but I am very much still here with both my classes and therapies and I looking forward to what 2023 brings 🤩. Hope to see some of you back on the mat next week and if there is anything I can help you with, please do get in touch ✍🏻.

Looking forward to my new classes starting on a Tuesday evening in Oxted 😄. If you would like more info, or to try a class, please DM me.

If you would like to give Pilates a try but don’t know where to start, this post is for you. And if you need a bit of a refresher (don’t we all!), I hope you find this helpful.
Tips:
🧘🏼‍♀️Try breathing IN to prepare for movement and breathing OUT as you move.
🧘🏼‍♀️ As you breathe in, imagine your torso is a balloon…feel your ribs expand laterally as you expand your balloon.
🧘🏼‍♀️ Tuck your navel toward your spine as you work.
🧘🏼‍♀️ Visualise yourself doing each movement perfectly before you even begin.
🧘🏼‍♀️ Work slowly at your own level..begin where you are and enjoy your own Pilates journey.
- Pilates is for everyone, regardless of fitness level, age or circumstances. Welcome to our tribe! 😊

Toning Tuesday!
One of my favourite classes is the Express Barre Sculpt. Set to upbeat music, this is a low impact, fun and varied cardio workout inspired by elements of dance and Pilates designed to strengthen and tone your body.
Fancy a go? Get in touch for a free trial class and get ready to enjoy 25-30 minutes of fun, Barre Sculpt and Tone Pilates.

As we look back over this year, you may be wondering where I have been. I promise you that I am very much still here - returning to school teaching 5 months before the pandemic started, while still trying to run a business I genuinely LOVE to do and keep my family of 5 sane (while dodging and succumbing to Covid on more than one occasion) meant something needed to give; so sorry for the silence on social media. Next year I will try to do better! 😉

Massage, reflexology and Pilates are still very much available and, as always, I am incredibly grateful for the support you have given me again this year. 💕

Behind the scenes I have been working on some ‘NEW’ offerings and qualifications, including:
👣 Reflexology for Menopause
🧘🏼‍♀️ Clinical Pilates
🧘🏼‍♀️ Barre Pilates
🧘🏼‍♀️ Healthy HIIT Pilates
👩🏼‍🏫 My Level 5 Dyslexia Specialism!

I hope that all of you are well and able to stay safe this holiday season. The people we love are really the most treasured things in our lives. Wishing you a Happy Christmas 🎄 and a much improved 2022!

Just wanted to wish you all a Happy Christmas and to say THANK YOU for your continued support, more so than ever this year! You’ve certainly helped get me through the challenging times.

I know Christmas is not quite what we were hoping and, like many of us, the normal large family gathering will have to be put on hold, but I’m so grateful that we still have each other. Plus, we certainly have some very excited children and I cannot wait for the joy this time of year brings them and their faces on Christmas morning.

Whatever this year leaves you feeling and however this festive season makes you feel, remember what you have achieved and the resilience we have all shown. We have no idea what next year will bring, but what I do know is we will get through it.

Have the most wonderful Christmas 🎄 and here’s to a happy and healthy 2021 💚.

See you on the other side!

Posted • 🎄 SPIKY BALL – 6 EXERCISES

(Words by Debbie Rice)

1. Sole of the foot
A great one for runners to prevent plantar fasciitis. Roll the ball from ball of your foot down to the heel. Then try placing the ball in the centre of the foot and stand onto the ball. Transfer your body weight forwards to increase the pressure.

2. Front of shoulders
Most of us become a little round in the shoulders over time. Place the ball between a wall and the front of your shoulder (not on breast tissue) to get some deep release.

3. Upper back
A desk worker’s favourite. With your back against a wall, place the spiky ball on the muscles between your shoulder blade and your spine. Come into a gentle squat position using your body weight to roll up and down over the ball. Hold still and apply pressure to any areas which feel tight.

4. Top of shoulders/Upper traps
Lie on your back with your knees bent up and place the ball under your upper traps. (To find, cross one arm in front of your body so that you can place the palm of your hand on top of the other shoulder – it’s where you would ask for a shoulder rub.) Bring your arm overhead towards the ground. Slowly lift your bottom off the ground and put more of your weight/pressure through the ball.

5. Glutes/Piriformis
Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the ground. Place a spiky ball underneath your glutes (where your back pocket would be) and gently roll over the ball until you find a trigger point.

6. Hip flexors/TFL
The spiky ball is great for rolling the TFL which is part of the hip flexor group that runs from the front of the hip into the ITB. To find it, run your finger down from the front of the pelvis and towards the outside of the top of your thigh.

🌿Important note: When used correctly, spiky balls can be used to perform effective self-massage exercise or muscle release techniques. Do not use your spiky ball if you have a recent injury or trauma which has broken the skin, generated swelling, caused inflammation of a joint, or if you are badly bruised. Remember to avoid bony areas. If in doubt, ask your practitioner.

Our Story

Hello and welcome to Baby, Body and Sole. My name is Debbie, and I am a fully qualified Pilates, Pregnancy and Postnatal Pilates instructor, massage therapist, reflexologist and baby class instructor!

As an experienced primary school teacher and a mother, with a young family of my own, I am aware of the daily tension and stresses of life and how important it is to set time aside specifically for relaxation.

It was this discovery that led me to explore alternative therapy, training as a complementary therapist in 2006.

After having my eldest son, I attended Baby Massage and Baby Yoga classes, and found the connection these classes gave my with my child truly remarkable. I decided to set up my own classes so that I could help others establish a bond with their children, guiding them on their journey into parenthood.
