Link to Hope shoebox appeal πŸ₯°

Big thank you to all the residents, relatives and staff who donated to our collection for the shoebox appeal this year, we were introduced to the charity by resident Joyce who has been collecting for over 20 years in Nettleham for Link to Hope. We were happy to help and join in with the Methodist church also.

The completed shoeboxes were delivered to the central Methodist church today to Val who volunteers to sort them and get them ready for shipping, she told us she has had 270 already dropped off. The boxes will be delivered to families, children and the elderly in need in Romania, Moldova, Ukraine and Bulgaria.

Thank you also to the three year 11 students from The Pilgrim School Baumber base who visited the home for the afternoon and were more than happy to help the residents fill the boxes too.

October is Black history month, so to help us celebrate, staff members Lulu, Blessing, Mo, Evi and Nnenna came together to do a presentation called 'Standing Firm in Power and Pride', for the residents and staff. They spoke about important African leaders, their heritage, history and all about their rich culture, all being originally from Nigeria.

Lulu and Blessing cooked an array of Nigerian dishes for everyone to try. From the traditional dishes of Jollof rice, puff-puffs and beef with plantain, to a traditional spicy soup, and many more. Everything was delicious, and really enjoyed by all.
The group all wore their traditional National dress, clothing which would be worn on special occasions and were beautiful to see.

We got to watch a video of a popular event in Nigeria and hear traditional music and there was even some dancing from the group. They taught us all how to welcome one another in their languages, which is different depending on which tribe you belong to.

Overall it was such a wonderful, informative and well planned afternoon for them to share their culture and history with us all.
We felt very proud of them and honoured that they shared all these things with us. Residents and staff gave amazing feedback on the event, and everyone is looking forward to the next one. πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬ πŸ‡¬πŸ‡ πŸ₯°

The ladies had a great morning with Neil from Lincolnshire County Cricket having a game of table cricket 🏏 it was great fun and we all had a great laugh together and found some hidden cricket skills amongst the group and it showed how much it helps with dexterity and hand eye coordination.
We look forward to our next visit πŸ˜ƒ

MHA Stones Place

Stones Place care home in Lincoln, originally a country manor house, is situated next to Hartsholme Lake, a beautiful country park which is accessible for wheelchair users. MHA made major additions in 1972 and the home was subsequently refurbished in 1996, with the rooms increased to 42 in 2004.

The Duchess of Kent, the first Royal to open a home, said: "The clear theme running through your plans is that every resident should be recognised as an individual, should feel wanted and receive affection, and be able to maintain his own respect within the security and comfort of a home.”
