The simple truth about why diets don't ever really work in January...
Because this is the season of rest.
Hibernation.
Slowing, resting. Recharging.
It's when we're not supposed to be doing anything at all.
So you might put so much effort into going without, into pushing yourself so hard, but somehow, it never really sticks..?
It's because it's not supposed to. We're supposed to be slow or stopped right now.
Conserving energy, building up reserves even.
This is why we all feel so cosy in the candle lit, cheese and chocolate fuelled, no mans land that is "twixmas".
So:
Don't feel like, just because someone else/society tells you you should be doing something that you should.
Trust that you know what you need and when you need it.
If things don't feel right now, then Spring is when we're actually supposed to be all "new" again, the season of new beginnings, growth, change.
So if now doesn't feel right, if the grey dank days leave you feeling sluggish and like you just want to crawl right back under the duvet and eat more chocolate, crack more nuts.. that is because that is what, from an evolutionary point of view, we are meant to be doing.
So, before trusting that the multi billion pound diet industry knows what you need, trust yourself.
The right time will come.
Concentrate your energies there.
