The simple truth about why diets don't ever really work in January...

Because this is the season of rest.
Hibernation.
Slowing, resting. Recharging.

It's when we're not supposed to be doing anything at all.

So you might put so much effort into going without, into pushing yourself so hard, but somehow, it never really sticks..?

It's because it's not supposed to. We're supposed to be slow or stopped right now.
Conserving energy, building up reserves even.

This is why we all feel so cosy in the candle lit, cheese and chocolate fuelled, no mans land that is "twixmas".

So:

Don't feel like, just because someone else/society tells you you should be doing something that you should.

Trust that you know what you need and when you need it.

If things don't feel right now, then Spring is when we're actually supposed to be all "new" again, the season of new beginnings, growth, change.

So if now doesn't feel right, if the grey dank days leave you feeling sluggish and like you just want to crawl right back under the duvet and eat more chocolate, crack more nuts.. that is because that is what, from an evolutionary point of view, we are meant to be doing.

So, before trusting that the multi billion pound diet industry knows what you need, trust yourself.

The right time will come.
Concentrate your energies there.

Remember, any change, has to be for you, from you.More often than not, those imploring you to change want you to change ...

More often than not, those imploring you to change want you to change for them..
Perhaps to sell you something, or to mould you into how they want you to be/look/feel/do...

So this is your reminder to be free to be the you that YOU want and deserve to be.

Your you, your way.

This series is definitely worth hitting save and follow for as I offer up a series of tips to help us overcome all the added stresses and strains that seem to come to a head at this time of year.

Constantly keeping busy is a trauma response.

We might not think of ourselves as traumatised, but if our minds and bodies have had to deal with what they've found to be a stressful event, then it's likely that same mind and body will be responding as for trauma.

Which means heightened stress levels, higher cortisol, anxiety, fight, flight, freeze, and faun, (why we say Yes even more 🙄), leading to more sleeplessness and more to do.

Whether it's trauma from stress, anxiety, grief, or a particular incident, I get it, and I've got you.

These tips and techniques will be things you can do yourself, and if, as ever, you need more targeted support, my consultations are always free and without obligation. Or how about a Seasonal Stress Smashing session to get you from frazzled to fabulous. Literally melting away those stresses and strains so you can just get on and really enjoy the bits you want.

⭐️⭐️⭐️First tip: Breathwork. I know 🙄. Hear me out.
The antidote to busy-ness is pausing. So take time to do some targeted breathing.
Plant your feet. Notice how connected you are to the ground. Now breathe.
Slowly. Making the out breath longer than the in.
Continue 'til you notice a release which might be a yawn, a burp or muscle twitch.
Check in and notice how you're feeling after each round and before and after.
You did that!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Like to think of yourself as a kind person?
But never have the time or energy to be kind to yourself

Truth:

👉 Being a kind person means being kind to yourself, too.

😳😬🙄🫣

This is a theme that comes up *SO MANY* times with clients...."I'm a people pleaser.." ..".I like to keep the peace.." .."I just let people walk all over me.." "..there's no time once I've sorted.." .."I don't know what I want.. I just don't want [this].."

The thing is, we are *EXPERTS* at being kind to other people, so why does it feel so alien to be kind to ourselves??

Everyone's version of being kind to themselves should look and feel differently but if you're struggling to know where to start; try looking at it from a different perspective;
you wouldn't let another struggle with something so show yourself that same kindness too.

So often, we don't show ourselves the kindness we show to others; the time, the nurture, the care, the attention to detail, the [self] love, that we show to everyone else, 24/7..because we're either too tired doing all that for everyone else, simply forgotten how to take care of ourselves, ran out of time or energy or we just don't know how to do the whole self love thing and usually a combination of the above.

No wonder you've not had a chance to be kind to yourself.
I get it. Everyone wants a bit of you, and there's nothing left for you. You're all out of time and energy.

And yes, with life and being a grown-up, there has to be compromise, and life is nothing if not imperfect, but still, you deserve the kindness you show to others.

This is where hypnotherapy really comes into its own. It is so much quicker than talking therapies, requires much less effort and energy, and because it is quicker (a handful of sessions rather than months or years) it is so much more cost effective too..

👉If you take one thing from this; it's to be kind to yourself.

Signs that you are a human...

You're real, so of course it's inevitable that you'll say the wrong things.

You hesitate or don't do stuff.

You flip flop or change your mind, perhaps want to hide away.

You make mistakes.

It just makes you real.

So, be kind with yourselves...

And understand this is the same for others too.

Keep being you.

This is my favourite picture of the Northern Lights.

It's a picture my 5 year old eagerly created the next morning.

It's how she felt, how she remembered what she saw.

Because so often it's not what we actually see, or hear, or do that's important, it's how we interpret it. How we contextualise it. How it then fits in with who we are and what's going on for us, either at that moment, or this.

Which is why times of high stress, anxiety, fear, things can feel so extra tough. So oppressive.

The good news is that same brain can be used to re-interpret, reevaluate, set a new or shifted context.
You can do this on your own through intentional thought, or mindfulness, or at a deeper, subconscious level using hypnotherapy.

It's always so lovely when people take the time to drop you a note thanking you.

Change journeys can feel scary.. like a leap into the unknown. I get it.

👉 However uncomfortable and uncertain things might feel now, at least it's known. Familiar. The same. A bit like a comfort blanket of certainty, albeit an itchy and uncomfortable one that doesn't half weigh you down.👈

But it doesn't have to be like that.

Throughout your time with me I am always by your side, supporting you, nurturing you, guiding you and your brilliant brain, (and believe me, it might not feel brilliant right now but it truly is brilliant!), to where you need and deserve to be.

You might have tried to change things before, and for whatever reason, things just didn't work out for you.

In actual fact, most of my clients have tried umpteen different things and been utterly exhausted by previous attempts, before arriving with me as a "last chance", before they resigned themselves to change never being possible for them.

Just know that, change with me doesn't have to take ages. Change doesn't have to be scary. Change doesn't have to look or feel a particular way.

Change can be calm, nurturing, supported, engaging, and sometimes even funny.

It is always tailored totally to you, with who you are and where you're at, at the heart of everything I do.

🤲 You deserve to be free to be the you that you want to be.

I understand that times are hard right now, and I know, not everyone can do the 1:1 work.. but you'd still like to enjoy the benefits of change work.

Which is why I'm developing a series of standalone group workshops of about 2 hours in length to help you get all the benefits of working with me but in the comfort of an online group session!*

The first session will be on the theme of Feelings and will help you shift a particular feeling that you've been really struggling with and brings the same level of expertise that I apply to a 1:1 session but at a much more accessible price point.

As this is a new programme, I'm looking for one person to road test the content for me.

This can be online or in person.

All I need from you is that you have a particular feeling that has been holding you back, dragging you down, casting a shadow over your life to such an extent that its causing you regular problems.. so much so that you just want to be free of it to live your own life again.

If this sounds like you, and you've got about 2 hours to spare to road test the session and another hour or so to give some feedback to me and some testimonials for social media.

You'll get the benefit of doing this 1:1 with me, when it would usually be in a group session, all for just £35.

Hello!!!
Time to stick my face out in public again 😳😊😊

I'm Lou, the real-life human being behind the Freedom Therapist.

I love blue skies, good pizza, and cups of tea. The sea side, trees, and a night in front of some retro box sets, preferably with some Co-Op Salt and Vinegar crisps (IYKYK), or a Toblerone.

My favourite books from this summer were The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Where The Crawdads Sing.

My wardrobe consists mainly of stripes (except a bit of 🐆). I used to deal in vintage clothes BC (before children), and now sit firmly in the Vinted fan club. I'm definitely an eco girl with a love of fashion at heart!

Oh, and I own far too many coats. 🤷‍♀️

I'm also incredibly lucky to love what I do. Helping people find their freedom just to be is exactly what I'm about.

No fancy fanfares, just getting your life back, so you can live it. How you want.

Grief has been quite a big part of my journey to where I am right now, and I guess that's why I'm so passionate about just getting on and blooming well living.

Life really is short, time literally flies by, and I do absolutely get it, things are tough; so many pulls on our time, energy, resources, money, that everything ends up being a juggle and a compromise.

That compromise can feel even more of a challenge, like you're dragging a spiky log through a foggy swamp when you're also battling against your own battles, your fears, phobias, stresses, anxieties.. all those things that cast a shadow over pretty much every good thing.

So that's why I'm here.
That's why I do what I do.

And if you want, one day I could help you or a loved one too.

Honestly, the list of things, conditions, problems, challenges, stuff... whatever you want to call it.. is endless.

Just recently they've included traumas, fears and phobias, (dentists, driving and emetophobia have come up quite a bit recently), stress, sleeplessness, exam worries, hoarding, weight management, work place issues including how to negotiate better terms, and sports performance.

Some of these things have been the same kind of problem but need a different approach.

You see, everything I do is completely bespoke, unlike many hypnotherapists who use things like scripts or set patterns of work. Everything I do, is totally you shaped, unique... just like you.

I take the time to listen, find out who you are and what goes on in and around your life, creating a programme of work that fits exactly who you are, where you're at, and where you want, and deserve to be.
. And then we do the work while you're nice and relaxed, so it feels like you've had a lovely time in a spa or something🧘‍♀️ Even when you've been working on something that otherwise fills you with fear.. or dread.. or both.. clients find they've had a peaceful, relaxing time and come away from sessions amazed just how easy and effortless it was for them.

I always offer consultations without any charge or obligation to book in with me.
It is so important to me that you find the right person for you to guide you through whichever changes you'd like, and deserve to make. So, even once we've had a chat, it's OK for you to walk away.
