For anyone who has been humming, cold-plunging, and trying every breathing app, and still feels like something underneath hasn't quite let go, this is for you.

The vagus nerve doesn't always need more stimulation. Sometimes it needs permission to release what it has been quietly holding.

Sara Agnew and I have been developing the Gentle Release Vagus Nerve Protocol together for the past few years. The blog tells the story of how it came to be, inspired by trying to help my daughter.

If you trained in Reiki, and your practice has been asking you a bigger question lately, you might find something in this one.

I've just updated a piece I've been meaning to rewrite for a while. How Gentle Release Therapy is different to Reiki. And why, for a lot of practitioners, Gentle Release has become the next chapter of the same work, not a replacement for what they already love.

It's not a critique. Reiki is beautiful, and I have huge respect for the lineage. Many of the practitioners now working with Gentle Release trained in Reiki first. Their practice didn't fail them. It just started asking for more specificity, more structure, a language for what was happening in the body.

The word that keeps coming up in their reflections is "empowering." For the client. For the practitioner. For what you can actually do with your hands.

Gentle but powerful. Specific but intuitive. Grounded in Traditional Chinese Medicine, without needing an attunement or symbols to begin.

✨ Practitioner Spotlight ✨

Introducing As If A Phoenix Ltd, founded by Tracey Cutler — an intuitive mentor and Gentle Release practitioner whose work is rooted in curiosity, depth, and a genuine desire to understand.

Tracey describes herself as someone who seeks to get to the bottom of things — a problem-solver and reason-finder — supporting those who feel they haven’t yet found answers through more conventional routes.

Her work weaves together spiritual life coaching, nervous system awareness, trauma-informed learning, and Gentle Release Therapy — creating space for both the body and the deeper layers of experience to be acknowledged.

What’s especially beautiful is how her journey with Gentle Release unfolded.

Tracey first experienced the Introduction to Gentle Release Therapy course, and describes how it gently shifted a number of things for her — not in a forceful way, but in a way that created movement and momentum within her own development.

She speaks about the experience of it being both gentle and powerful, and the way it was held — peaceful, supportive, and steady — allowing her to deepen her connection to her own work and path.

That experience naturally led her into training more fully — and she has now completed her Gentle Release Practitioner training, bringing this work into the heart of what she offers.

Tracey now supports clients who are looking for clarity, understanding, and relief — particularly where things feel complex or unresolved — holding space with care, thoughtfulness, and depth.

Clients often describe her as caring, supportive, and thorough, and there’s a quiet steadiness in how she works.

She describes Gentle Release as:
“gentle but powerful.”

And perhaps most simply, and most truthfully:
“It’s a privilege to do this work.”

You might come for the facial… but there's something deeper your body has been waiting for.

EnerQi Facial Rejuvenation was born from Gentle Release Therapy — an intuitive approach that combines energy work with Traditional Chinese Medicine principles. It's built on that same foundation: working gently with the body to release what it's holding, not just on the surface, but beneath it.

Yes, you may notice your skin looking brighter and lifted, your face more relaxed, a softness returning. But the intention goes beyond appearance.
This work creates space. For your body to settle. For your system to process what it's been carrying.

As part of a small pilot study, we offered one 90-minute EnerQi treatment to 9 women experiencing peri-menopausal and menopausal symptoms. Using an internationally recognised rating scale, 8 out of 9 showed marked improvements — with symptoms reducing by 20% to 82% within the first few days, and many still noticing shifts a month later.

This isn't about quick fixes or forcing outcomes. And it won't be the same for everyone.

But it opens a conversation — that there may be another way to be supported through this phase of life.

A way that's gentle. That works with your body, not against it. At your pace, when you're ready.

Ever wondered what Gentle Release Therapy actually is?

It's an intuitive, energy-based therapy rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine principles. Gentle, non-invasive, and led entirely by what the body needs — not a set routine.

As a practitioner, you learn to notice where energy is blocked, ask the body to release it, and know when it has. You work with cranial release, endocrine and lymphatic systems, emotional trauma clearing, and even an introduction to vagus nerve work.

It's the kind of therapy where clients often say, "I don't know what you did, but something shifted."

Whether you're an existing therapist looking for that missing piece, or someone ready to retrain in something deeply meaningful — this could be what you've been searching for.

Courses are small, personal, and supportive — no more than 8 students — and accredited by FHT, AOR, Thinktree and CThA.

Two ways to train this spring/summer:

🤍 Lincolnshire Practitioner Retreat — Evening of Monday 18th May, then Full Days Tuesday 19th - Thurs 21st May. An immersive in-person experience for those who love to learn face to face. Luxury Retreat accommodation available Monday - Friday. Your own beautiful double en-suite room, so you have space to take some time for yourself, or gather in the swim spa to chat and connect.

🤍 Virtual Practitioner Retreat — Mon 8th to Fri 12th June via Zoom, 9:30am–2:30pm daily. Spread over 5 days to fit around school hours. Learn, retreat and release from the comfort of your own home.

Gently Held is a 23-minute guided Gentle Release session I created for anyone navigating the tender landscape of end of life — whether you are the one preparing to rest, or the one lovingly present beside them.

It guides you gently through grounding, a connection to the Earth and the wider universe, and a soft release through key areas of the body — inviting anything held in tension, worry, or emotion to quietly soften and let go.

You don't need any experience. You don't need to be able to move. You just need somewhere comfortable to rest.

This was created at the request of GRT practitioners working in hospice settings, to offer something meaningful for their clients between appointments. But it's for anyone who needs it.

This May we are returning to Ashlin Farm Barns in Lincolnshire for another of our Gentle Release Practitioner Training Retreats, and if you've been before, you'll know just how special these few days can be.

Three full days of intensive, hands-on practical training. The kind of learning that settles deeper when you're surrounded by calm, beautiful space and nourishing food.

The retreat runs from the evening of Monday 18th May through to Thursday 21st May 2026.

And the venue itself is something quite special.

Think home-cooked lunches each day, cakes and snacks to keep you going, and the most welcoming atmosphere to learn in.
If you'd like to stay on site (and we'd really recommend it), you can add four nights in a luxurious double en-suite room, all to yourself. That includes dinner, bed and breakfast each evening, bathrobes and slippers, and even a swim spa to unwind in after a day of training.

It's the kind of retreat where in the evenings you get to spend time and connect with like minded people, over good food and a glass of wine if you fancy one or your equally welcome to retreat to your luxurious bedroom to take some time out for yourself.

🤍 Practitioner Training Retreat: £695
🤍 Add 4 nights Deluxe Accommodation & Meals: £295 (total £990)

A non-refundable deposit of £200 confirms your place.

Spaces are limited, so please get in touch to check availability before booking.

These retreats are always something special. 🤍

This week is Neurodiversity Celebration Week and what better way to celebrate it than share about how it helped us develop the Gentle Release Therapy Vagus Nerve work.

Watching my own daughter navigate the world as an autistic child, I saw first-hand how much the nervous system can struggle to regulate and inspired me to use try working with Gentle Release on our own Vagus Nerves. That experience shaped everything that followed, and ultimately inspired the Vagus Nerve courses.

One of our practitioners recently shared this about working with her adult daughter, who experienced autistic and ADHD burnout:

"My adult daughter has recently suffered a full breakdown due to autistic and ADHD burnout. During her recovery she has experienced frequent meltdowns and spiralling, as she has struggled to regulate her nervous system. Helen suggested working on the vagus nerve, having seen how well this worked with her own daughter.

I use the first four points of the vagus treatment and the results are astonishing. The first two holds seem to reassure her, but the holds on the ears are transformative. This is where all the energy seems to be, and the calming effect is instant. The overwhelm evaporates, steadiness returns.

The treatment has become a valuable element of her toolkit, giving her more confidence and removing some of her fear about becoming dysregulated."

This is why this work matters so much.

If you'd like a gentle starting point, we've created a special bundle to celebrate the launch of the Introduction to the Vagus Nerve course:

Fabulous review for Gentle Release Vagus Nerve work 💗

SOME WONDERFUL FEEDBACK FROM A LOVELY CLIENT - FOR GENTLE RELEASE THERAPY

"Hi Ged.... so really impressed with the Vagas Nerve Gentle Release Therapy. The sessioitself was incredibly calming, I felt very relaxed more so than the other two sessions I have had before. Considering the hectic, busy lifestyle I am leading and the bad weather outside it did not affect the amazing way you managed to create total calm over my mind and body, so much so I was almost asleep at the end of the session. It is hard to describe how relaxed I felt after the session other than to say I felt almost a little drunk. Slightly lighted headed but in a really pleasant way. When I got home I felt totally at peace with myself and my family which is very welcome. I cant believe I had the best night's sleep I have had in for what seems like a very long time. If it was not for my husband getting up in the night for the toilet I would have slept right through and that never happens. I did not even feel my carpal tunnel in my hand and that has had me up most nights for weeks now. This morning I felt calm, refreshed and relaxed and clear headed which is quite amazing at 5am getting ready for another busy day at work. If you could bottle this feeling and sell it I would be at the front of the queue!! Definitely looking forward to my next session and seeing the benefits that will unfold!! Many thanks for the opportunity 🙏 xx"

Ready to GO?

Welcome to the next part of my journey for Gentle Release Therapy. Since late 2017 I’ve been busy creating a training course so that others can learn the techniques and become Gentle Release Therapy Practitioners. I have applied for accreditation with both the Federation of Holistic Therapists and Thinktree Hub. Whilst I wait for approval I will be busy setting up the website and beginning to schedule the first training courses.

If you think you might be interested make sure you like and follow Gentle Release Therapy on facebook. I’m planning to organise some introductory offers, but there will be limited spaces available and they won’t last long!
