💡Top Tip Tuesday – Tip #7 - Give Yourself Time⌚

One of the best things you can do before heading out with your horse is to allow plenty of TIME.

🔧 Check your transport early
Whether you travel in a lorry or trailer, schedule a thorough check at least 2–3 weeks before your first outing. This gives you enough time to sort any unexpected repairs without last-minute stress.

🐴 Practise loading and travelling
If your horse doesn’t travel regularly or you’ve recently changed vehicles, build in time to practise loading and unloading. A short, calm practice trip can make a big difference to confidence on competition day.

🗺 Plan ahead
Check your route in advance for roadworks or delays, and keep an eye on the weather forecast so there are no surprises.

🕒Giving yourself time helps ensure a safe, smooth and stress-free trip for both you and your horse. You can find helpful guidance on pre-travel checks here - https://www.bhs.org.uk/go-riding-and-learn/riding-out-hacking/transporting-your-horse/checks-before-you-travel/

Many thanks to Des Payne, BHS Safety Manager for today's tip. Keep an eye out every Tuesday for more useful tips from British Riding Clubs Head Office!🙌🏽

🐴BHS Road Safety Survey for Horse Riders and Carriage Drivers🐴

Could you spare a few minutes to complete our road safety survey?

If you’ve been out on public roads with a horse or pony in the past year, we would love to hear from you. We’re keen to learn about your experiences and activities when using public roads, as well as your views on equestrian road safety.

The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It is completely anonymous, and no personal data will be collected. Your responses will help support our ongoing campaign to improve safety for equestrians on the roads.

Whether you ride, carriage drive, or lead a horse — your input matters, and we would greatly appreciate your participation.
