Things parents tell me… infant feeding & tongue tie clinic edition:
Frequently parents will tell me they were told Tongue ties don’t affect bottle feeding babies. ❌ This is not the case. We know that bottle fed babies can struggle with oral function issues too and can display symptoms like breastfed babies. One I hear all too often, is: your baby has a tongue tie, it’s only mild though, so shouldn’t affect feeding. ❌ Lots of health professionals have a wealth of experience with feeding and tongue ties. But unless someone has done a full tongue function assessment how can they assess it to be mild? A Quick Look won’t cut the mustard! ❌ Babies are NOT lazy. Babies are new to feeding, they’re learning, we’re learning, if they’re falling asleep or finding it hard, let’s address the root cause, and not just assume a baby is being lazy.
