The most beautiful testimonial from one of my wonderful Mama's, whose baby boy is a month old already 💙

Emma's review here really hits the nail on the head...

➡️ "to ensure I had all the information early enough whilst in the right head space" ⬅️

THIS ☝️

As Emma will tell you and agree with, when your baby is here, it feels HECTIC, it can and might feel overwhelming, emotional, stressful if you run into breastfeeding complications and you have no idea what you're doing!? Now you're in pain, you're not sleeping, you don't know what's 'normal' and what's not........

AVOID THIS!!!! Get prepped DURING pregnancy. I can not stress how crucial this is to avoid a cascade of intervention and to feel confident having so much knowledge about breastfeeding, your newborn, breast milk production and so much more that I can't fit into a caption ...💗

As Emma knows, she has lifetime membership and support from myself and The Thompson Method Breastfeeding Team 😍

Well done, Emma, you are absolutely smashing it 👏 💙

If you're keen to have a prenatal course that actually looks after YOU and teaches you aspects that other courses don't .... let's have a chat together ❤️

🩶 May is Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month, and if you are currently pregnant, it may well be something you've just heard about here and there but likely hasn't crossed your mind much, understandably.

However, it is important to know that 1 in 5 mothers will experience some symptoms of anxiety, mood disorder, postnatal depression or PTSD after birth. Quite often, these symptoms can be masked in feeling tired, feeling very run down, and feeling a total lack of energy. Masked because these things are to be expected naturally post baby, especially after your first. 💛

Many women feel a bit down, tearful or anxious in the first week after giving birth.

This is often called the "baby blues" and is so common that it's considered normal.💙

The "baby blues" do not last for more than 2 weeks after giving birth.

If you are struggling with experiencing these feelings and symptoms for a persistent amount of time, (2-3 weeks plus), then it could be more than the "baby blues" and more than just the tiredness of disturbed nights and minding a small baby.

It's possible that you won't even realise yourself that you're experiencing PND, PNA or PTSD so this is to all partners, friends and families out there - please check in on new parents, gently keep watch and notice the signs if any show. 🙏

It took myself a whole year of mental struggle and torture to actually realise perhaps the way I was wasn't 'normal' postpartum - a mixture of PNA and largely PTSD diagnosed and now we're doing what we can.

Don't wait that long 🙏

Check out the NHS information for PND signs and symptoms and reach out for help if you resonate with any of them 🩶 Sending love ...

✨ Let me help you with 5 key factors to include in Your Birth Plan ⬇️✨

Key Factor #1: Routine Vaginal Examinations 🧐

•Many women are not aware that they have the right to say 'NO' to routine vaginal examinations, and this is one of the reasons why Dr. Robyn Thompson encourages women to include this as a consideration in their own unique birth plan checklist.

Key Factor #2: Induction of Labour and your birth plan options 📖

•Whenever induction of labour is recommended, it’s okay to ask WHY. Dr. Robyn Thompson encourages women to ask "why "and to be informed of the benefits, risks, and alternatives.

Key Factor #3: Routine Procedure 📈

•When planning to give birth in the hospital system, it's important to be aware that hospital systems are designed for efficiency with the aim of rapidly processing women in, through, and out, and many routine procedures when mum and baby are well with an APGAR of 7 or more are unnecessary at that time.

Key Factor #4: Colostrum and the First Breastfeed 🤱

•Not all newborn babies will go straight to the breast immediately following birth. However, Dr. Robyn Thompson talks about the 3 golden hours, giving time for your newborn to feel secure. It's important to consider the first breastfeed (The 3 Golden Hours) in your birth plan so that your baby has the best possible chance of receiving your colostrum.

Key Factor #5: Unexpected or Emergency Situations 🥼🩺

•Dr. Robyn Thompson encourages women to avoid unnecessary medical intervention wherever possible. However, it's important to be aware that, as things change or unexpected things occur, a reasonable discussion may take place, where the woman or her partner or advocate may be required to make an informed decision.

Your birth can greatly influence your breastfeeding outcome, so be educated, be knowledgeable, be empowered, and ready 💪🫶

Why are my ni***es painful and damaged? 😩

Painful ni**le trauma is one of the most common complications experienced by breastfeeding mummas and is THE MOST COMMON reason for giving up before most want to...

Dr Robyn Thompson's PhD research found that ni**le trauma was significantly associated with the commonly taught cross-cradle technique, also directing the ni**le to nose while forcefully and rapidly trying to 'attach' the baby to the breast.

The language often described by Women who were taught the cross-cradle technique was to, “get the mouth open wide first” then “quickly get as much of the ar**la as possible” into the baby’s mouth.

If you're experiencing painful ni**le trauma or any common complications listed here, you are not alone, and you're in the right place! 🥰🙏

Sometimes, it may just mean some mindful observation and gentle adjustments to improve the discomfort you or your baby may be experiencing.

If you'd like some information about how I can help you prepare for pain-free breastfeeding, give me a 👋🏼 in the comments.

"MY BABY NEEDS A DEEPER LATCH"' ...

DID YOU KNOW ⤵️

It's not necessary for your baby to have a wide open mouth to commence breastfeeding..!? Yes, despite what you're told in the hospital...🙄

The need for a wide open mouth is often associated with forceful techniques, which usually involve holding your baby by the back of the head, neck, or shoulders. No no no 🚫 let's NOT do that!
How are they supposed to use their natural survival functions to breastfeed if we're controlling their movements??

Do we see animals being interfered with when nursing from their mothers? Nope, we do not...!

Instead of the crosscradle technique and restricting baby's movements, we suggest simply that you gently cradle your baby with lips over ni**le. Your baby will seal the ni**le with her lips and then use the vacuum pads inside her cheeks to draw your ni**le and some breast tissue.

That's right! Simple as that! You then have a 'deeper latch'.

RECHARGING OUR BATTERIES 🥰✨️

Now R is almost 19 months old, we can explore attractions, and she shows real interest and excitement. It's amazing to watch!

I keep thinking back to the young baby days when you're trying to figure out a new routine every week, then something else changes, feeding, sleep, development and you think to yourself "WILL I EVER FIGURE THIS OUT....!!??"

Perhaps we never figure it out fully... but it sure does get easier and, I think, better and better as you watch them turn into their own personality...x

Can this affect breastfeeding...? YES!

ANY prenatal vitamin, multivitamins, probiotics, powdered shakes/drinks, fish oils, and 'lactation cookies' can alter the taste and smell of your breastmilk causing fussing and an upset bub, sometimes even breast refusal and GI disturbances 😕

Closely observe your baby's behaviour, and if you do notice any changes, have a think about what you are taking on a daily basis that could be a contributing factor.

We at the Thomson Method suggest stopping your Prenatal vitamins at least a week before birth, if safe and you feel it's right to do so, in order to clear them from your system ready to commence breastfeeding 💕

Our Story

Welcome to L&S Gift and Coffee House + The Beach Hut set in the very centre of Liphook.

As a family we have lived in Liphook for 26 years - Owners Lucy & Michael have grown up in the village together and attended the local schools. Together with Co-owner Sarah of Liphook Art and Framing and family, being parents and grandparents! - we set out to grab this empty, sorry looking premises, formerly Carlas dress shop, in early 2016 which is when the idea was born.

Knowing the village for our whole lives we knew something was missing and this had always been a communal space where you could meet with friends or likeminded villagers and enjoy a cup of coffee and a decent slice of cake! And not just for mums and dads of the village, but for the elderly, the retired, the workers from home, the young teenagers, the school children, a place to come and be calm and relax, to forget about your worries and have a friendly chat and we feel that is exactly what we have achieved.

We offer a comfortable, calm, tranquil atmosphere but with the hustle and bustle of village life and of course great coffee and consumables. We work with Horsham Coffee roasters in order to supply superb quality coffee for that caffeine fix. Our cakes are baked fresh to order and we like to jazz up the flavours! so you will always come across something a little different with us.
