Showing Up For Class

We all want to be fit and flexible. Starting out is always very exciting, your intention is good and enthusiasm high. In a world that moves at a fast furious pace commitment can be the hardest challenge. Life makes demands, self-care feels like a luxury and what other people have time for! Taking ownership of your wellbeing should be a priority, it's about self- love and not putting yourself last on the list while you see to everyone else's needs.

Consistancy can be a tool for growth. You begin to build a healthy relationship with yourself. Structure and commitment can reap life changing benefits.
When someone says I want to change and do something positive for myself I ask them the following questions.

What Days will you dedicate to keeping fit?
What time?
How many weeks/month's?

Will you travel to a class or schedule a home routine?

Not every session will reap the rewards you want. The act of showing up is what really matters.
Celebrate your progress, acknowledge the small steps as you move towards a better version of yourself.
Know that its a gift you give yourself. Notice when you set time aside to attend class or workout at home, you notice a shift in how you do life as a whole.
Your mat is always waiting, sometimes the biggest challenge is getting on it!
Start today and start small. trust the process- its time to be there for yourself. Enjoy the journey.

Building a Successful Yoga Brand

Persistent is key to developing yourself as a Yoga Teacher. Having a awareness on the trends that are in the marketplace is good, however stay true to your values and intentions. We can be tempted to change when maybe people were just getting who we are, and what we represent! When starting to teach, baby steps are best, working on your self-development is advised rather than jumping into continous courses fragmenting yourself instead of focusing on transforming your mind-set to become more resilient and positive. When you do this it spills over into your life for the better.

Mentoring Teachers I hear often that they feel a bit lost within themselves on how to move forward. We can all build a fabulous Instagram page but is that enough to brand you in the role you wish to be known for?

Earning a living teaching can be challenging and hard work. You are making decisions and planning your future, this can be lonely road at times.

As we come to the last week's of 2025, its good to reflect on what went well and what needs to change.

Asking yourself a few deep questions can often result in moving yourself forward for 2026.......

What can I do differently to build my confidence and feel strong within myself?

Who can I talk to that understands the ups and downs of working in the field of Health and Wellness?

Are my friends cheering me on, or do I feel a negetive vibe when I am with them?

What thoughts do I have often about myself and is it time to build on self-growth?

What lessons did I learn this year, and what steps will I take to turn things around for the better?

Do I feel happy or is it time for me to make some changes in my life?

Writing your answers down gives you ownership of how things really are in your life. You don't want to start the New Year carrying the stuff from this year that bogs you down, and makes you feel miserable. Lifes to short, step up, rise up and meet the new you in 2026. Somewhere deep inside that person is so ready to evolve!

MAKEOVER
Becoming Healthier is a long-term process, trying to make big changes is something we usually do on the 1st of January. Starting now easing yourself into a programme of Yoga, Pilates or Fitness means you have prepared the ground for new positive changes in your health next year.

Beth ( not her real name) started my online 6 months ago. Not interested in joining a class, she exercised everyday. Two years ago Beth was very fit doing triathlons. But then she lost all motivation and put weight on and stopped all her training. This resulted in High Blood pressure and Mild Depression. I explained to her that exercise is not a quick fix it needs to become a way of life.

Before going on medication Beth started the online classes, texting me regularly with questions and her results. I explained to her her goals were to big and she expected way to much of herself. I explained how the standing Poses in Yoga build strength and endurance along with body awareness.
Through explaining how Movement and Stretching would change her body, gave Beth the motivation she needed.

Its good to push ourselves to the edge but not go over the cliff! Through the weeks Beth began to feel the mind and body connection again, and how the little things can make a big difference. The impact on her Blood Pressure was phenomenal, a few pounds lighter changed her body composition. This empowered her to take care of herself and stop using quick fixes because they don't work in the long run! I loved what Beth said to me last week. " I feel at ease in my body, like when I was young. I have got back the freshness in my life again.....

Often we want change so much especially when we get to the New Year we give it our all. I had a gym for 10 years and in January the gym was jam packed with people wanting to lose weight and get back in shape. However by February a good percentage had given up! Everyone wanted a big change fast!

What if you start now, small steps, small changes, so when January comes you are already on your way to a healthier you?

Teacher Training
In training I ask students to visualise themselves as a confident communicator and reframe negative self talk and quieten the inner critic. Confident communication starts with inner work. Often we can wear that mask but on the inside we are battling with nerves or self-doubt. The more we communicate the more confident we become. Building your confidence should be ongoing, shifting your attention from self- criticism to self-appreciation. Building awareness of noticing what is good about yourself, will lift you out of the compassion habit, and shine a light on yourself.

Standing in front of a class can be nerve racking for new students, so preparation plays a key role, listening to your voice and improving the more you practice. For many it only takes one negetive comment to start the self-critic off on why your not good enough!,The good news is we have the power to change the way we think about ourselves and step up to a new found confidence as we practice and mix with like minded people. This trust in yourself is the building block you need to find your voice and speak confidently to your classes.

Class Vibes
Wherever you teach inside or outside your class has a strong vibration a energy of its own.
You the teacher create that energy, people feel it and carry it with them after the class.
They remember how you made them feel. when perhaps everything else in their world was falling apart.

Thats why Your class keep coming back not because you stood on your head to impress but because you bent over backwards to put them at ease.

Like a recipe class structure comes together to create something unique.. Building a scaffolding around your sessions to keep them strong and stop things falling apart means calling in others with talents and gifts that can add to your sessions when you need to step back or add something new, to keep the energy alive and vibrant.

A good teacher who can read a class will see when things need to change. Even small changes can lift the energy. Time out is good if you work continously you lose the
Insight to how things really are. Rest and Relaxation are your tools for new ideas and opportunities.

We all like to feel good, a word, a stretch. a breath, and a hour away from everyday routine can be your class, your input, and make a huge difference to the people that join you every week. Energy follows thought.

Proper posture is key to maximizing the benefits of your yoga practice. Whether you’re doing Paschimottanasana, Uttanasana, or Adho Mukha Svanasana, correct alignment ensures you are gaining strength, flexibility, and balance while avoiding unnecessary strain. For instance, in Paschimottanasana, keep your spine long and avoid rounding your back excessively.

When practicing forward bends like Uttanasana, focus on engaging your core and maintaining a strong foundation with your feet. In Adho Mukha Svanasana, be mindful of keeping your arms and legs properly aligned, which helps prevent strain and encourages a deeper stretch. By paying attention to your posture in each pose, you enhance the effectiveness of your practice.

As you become more aware of your body’s alignment, you’ll notice improvements in strength, flexibility, and posture. Practicing correct alignment is a form of self-care that helps you develop mindfulness both on and off the mat. 🌿🧘‍♀️
