On A Mission
After 14 days in Tenerife enjoying a break from teaching and joining class everyday I was able to enjoy the different styles of "Yoga" and also observe what was popular. The programme featured Yin Yoga, Astanga Yoga, Slow Flow, BLT, Vinyasa Yoga, Sound Bath, and a Stretch Class. The Stretch Class was the most popular, and more men joined in this class session. Yet Yoga stretching featured in lots of the work we did in this class!

As teachers do we draw people to class or put them off with a title they perhaps do not understand?

I overheard two ladies talking at lunch saying how much they enjoyed the Pilates Sessions!!!!

Taking stock of what you have going on at present and if a simple change could open up more opportunities for you and move you forward, is often all thats needed.

Now is a good time to reset for the New Year. I always look back on the year and assess what went well and was it enjoyable?
What lessons I learnt from what didn't workout and also changes I need to make to
move into a new chapter. Fear is the partner
of Change, and Failure is the partner of Success. We need to experience it all to grow and succeed.

Social Media can often look like everyone is doing well and enjoying success, meanwhile here I am struggling to get it together!
The true picture is real life has struggle and disappointments. If you can weather that you will build resilience. The master of survival in a world that can be difficult to navigate when your self- employed.

Wishing you every success in 2026. πŸ™

What's Missing.....
Have you ever felt when teaching class that something is missing?
You feel unsettled but you just can't figure out what needs to change?

When this happens I know I need to do some inner work, study and take stock of the facts not my feelings.

This is a good time to do this, and to ask yourself some questions about the past year and what went well and what you would like to do next year?

Perhaps a more specialised group, going deeper into poses, encouraging each other and trying new things?

Arranging a meeting once a month with a mentor to work towards your goals and find out whats holding you back.

Start planting the seeds for next year in your mind. Water them with your thought life, words and actions.
Remember to pull out the weeds, to make room for new growth. So what do you need to make room for, and what needs to go?

Keep your mind-set strong and positive as this is the fertile ground for all your ideas and challenges for next year. Often we just
cruise through the day doing nothing
for self-growth. How different would your life be if you felt excited about your day, everyday?

Starting in January online next year it"s not just a great mix of classes but also a dive into inner work for self-care and a healthy mind-set. Your new pathway is starting to take shape. But first you need to get ready, and realize to move forward you need to let some things go!

Start planning for 2026 now.
It could be your best year yet!

🌟 This Christmas we need your help to keep Killybegs shining for every Christmas to come! πŸ’«

Each year local volunteers spend over 250 hours putting up and taking down our annual Christmas display. We can make those incredible volunteer's lives, and our Christmas lights, much brighter by rewiring our Main Street to make hanging and getting energy to our lights much much easier.

That's why we now need your help and every little bit of help we can get. To rewire the Main Street and to revamp our Christmas lights we must now raise a sum of over €26,000. Raising such a sum is a challenge. But we know with the support of our brilliant community we can do just that and make our annual Christmas Lights the pride of South-West Donegal.

We have set up a Go Fund Me page to allow for easy donations. Using the link below you can donate as much or as little as you're able to. We at the Community Council are incredibly grateful for any help at all that you can offer us.

And don't forget to join us this Sunday November 30th at 5.30pm as we switch on our 2025 Christmas Lights with the help of St. Mary's Choir, St. Catherine's Band and our two very special guests.

Go raibh mΓle maith agaibh :-)

Back to Basics

Back pain is a common complaint in my classes. Always talk to your doctor before you start any class, go easy, approaching stretching with props advised by your teacher. Soothing the nervous system taking long deep breaths as you move through class poses. If you feel any strain you can reduce your range of motion, or ask for a modified version of the pose.

As we age the soft discs between the vertebrae dry over time. However stretching and movement can prevent and relieve symptoms. Day to day routine can build up tension not just in your spine but in your hamstrings, hips and legs.

Your weekly class can help bad posture
will condition your muscles, and give you more freedom of .movement.
I encourage class members to stretch out every day even just for a few minutes.

The result better flexibility, less injuries. more energy and a clearer sharper mind.
Don't let the Xmas rush wear you down physically and mentally.

Make time for practice and enjoy the free gift of the present moment!

Showing Up For Class

We all want to be fit and flexible. Starting out is always very exciting, your intention is good and enthusiasm high. In a world that moves at a fast furious pace commitment can be the hardest challenge. Life makes demands, self-care feels like a luxury and what other people have time for! Taking ownership of your wellbeing should be a priority, it's about self- love and not putting yourself last on the list while you see to everyone else's needs.

Consistancy can be a tool for growth. You begin to build a healthy relationship with yourself. Structure and commitment can reap life changing benefits.
When someone says I want to change and do something positive for myself I ask them the following questions.

What Days will you dedicate to keeping fit?
What time?
How many weeks/month's?

Will you travel to a class or schedule a home routine?

Not every session will reap the rewards you want. The act of showing up is what really matters.
Celebrate your progress, acknowledge the small steps as you move towards a better version of yourself.
Know that its a gift you give yourself. Notice when you set time aside to attend class or workout at home, you notice a shift in how you do life as a whole.
Your mat is always waiting, sometimes the biggest challenge is getting on it!
Start today and start small. trust the process- its time to be there for yourself. Enjoy the journey.

Building a Successful Yoga Brand

Persistent is key to developing yourself as a Yoga Teacher. Having a awareness on the trends that are in the marketplace is good, however stay true to your values and intentions. We can be tempted to change when maybe people were just getting who we are, and what we represent! When starting to teach, baby steps are best, working on your self-development is advised rather than jumping into continous courses fragmenting yourself instead of focusing on transforming your mind-set to become more resilient and positive. When you do this it spills over into your life for the better.

Mentoring Teachers I hear often that they feel a bit lost within themselves on how to move forward. We can all build a fabulous Instagram page but is that enough to brand you in the role you wish to be known for?

Earning a living teaching can be challenging and hard work. You are making decisions and planning your future, this can be lonely road at times.

As we come to the last week's of 2025, its good to reflect on what went well and what needs to change.

Asking yourself a few deep questions can often result in moving yourself forward for 2026.......

What can I do differently to build my confidence and feel strong within myself?

Who can I talk to that understands the ups and downs of working in the field of Health and Wellness?

Are my friends cheering me on, or do I feel a negetive vibe when I am with them?

What thoughts do I have often about myself and is it time to build on self-growth?

What lessons did I learn this year, and what steps will I take to turn things around for the better?

Do I feel happy or is it time for me to make some changes in my life?

Writing your answers down gives you ownership of how things really are in your life. You don't want to start the New Year carrying the stuff from this year that bogs you down, and makes you feel miserable. Lifes to short, step up, rise up and meet the new you in 2026. Somewhere deep inside that person is so ready to evolve!
