The more we try NOT to have something…
the louder it gets, right?

“I don’t want a biscuit.”
“I don’t even like biscuits.”
“Biscuit.”
“Biscuit.”
“BISCUIT.”

And then…

You eat one.
Then another.

“Restriction increases preoccupation with food.”

The more we try NOT to have something, the more we think about it, right?! And the more annoyed/frustrated* (insert name of emotion here*) we get, the more we want it!!

And then we eat the flipping thing and hit ourself with a load of guilt/shame* and we feel so bad that we eat another 6 portions in a row to try and ease or "numb out" the discomfort of these feelings.

I have been there. So many times.

"No. I'm gonna be "good". I don't want a biscuit. I don't even need a biscuit. They're not even my favourite biscuit. Biscuit. Biscuit. Mmmm biscuit. Just one. Oh, go on then. I'll have another. Oh FFS. I ate the flippin biscuits!!! I can't believe you just did that!!! You've ruined it now. There's no point. You might as well eat the lot."

But you know what? When I've met my needs? When my blood sugar is well regulated? When my stress resilience is high? When my microbiome is healthy? When I'm powered by good fats and protein and sated by fibre and water?

I don't even think about the biscuit. Not once. Not even interested. Zero food noise. I can walk down the chocolate aisle without having a single hint of desire.

IKR?! And if I don't buy it that's half the battle won.

Yep. I can hear those excuses and arguments right now. But are they coming from YOU or your microbiome? Your sick and struggling mitochondria? Your inner child? Your biological desire to regulate your erratic blood sugars?

How often have you started a weight loss/fat loss/clean eating/fitness plan and felt you've had to give up because life stress totally threw you off course and you couldn't give it the time, effort and attention it needed to stick with the rules?

I've been there. So many times.

I've had that all or nothing thinking in the past and I've followed diets that give ZERO consideration for the effects of:

, , and and the demands of working long hours, or having to run children to 5 billion after school events.

To do it "properly" we need a level of brain power, energy and time that we simply haven't got during stressful phases to plan meals, cook and shop without being tempted by the sugar our biology is craving.

“When stress is high, the body prioritises survival over weight loss.” Dr Robert Sapolsky, Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers.

I have had so many people come to me when their weight refuses to budge, asking for supplements to boost their metabolism. They want to know what diet tweak they can make. Do they need to up their cardio?

As with all aspects of health (our weight, waistline and body composition can all often gives us clues about how well our body systems are working) we need to figure out the root causes.

With the exception of them cutting out the Ultra Processed Food our body struggles to understand, process, cope with and eliminate, all diets are not effective for all people.

And if a food plan doesn't work, or if we reach a plateau, we need to know why.

Because what works for one, will not necessarily work for another.

Does your PT ask about your stress levels? Does your Slimming World consultant ask about your levels of inflammation? Does the company your bought your weight loss shakes from ask you about your micronutrient deficiencies? Does your doctor that prescribes your injections or tablets ask you about your sleep?

If you get a good one, they might.

But it's unlikely.

And by not asking, they can INCREASE your stress levels.

And physical, mental and emotional stress is proven to: prevent fat loss, prevent muscle gain, lead to biochemical imbalances, reduced metabolism, blood sugar issues, insulin resistance, leptin resistance and inflammatory oedema (and soooo much more).

So you have to work twice as hard to get half the results and risk short term and long term problems.

You don’t need another diet.

The December Food Reset Without Being a Grinch or a Scrooge

December DOES NOT have to be a write-off.
And you don’t need to spend the next 4 weeks trapped in a UPF dopamine spiral just because “it’s Christmas.”

Here’s the truth:
UPFs give you a fast hit… then take more than they give back.
Short-lived dopamine → long-lived cravings.
A moment of pleasure → hours of fatigue, bloating, brain fog, guilt.
It's not you being weak or sensitive. It's just biology: biochemistry, neurology, immunology - all the ologies come and join the feel-crap party!!

But here’s the good news 👇

✨ You can enjoy Christmas food AND protect your energy, mood and metabolism.
It’s not about restriction. It’s about being a little bit strategic in protecting yourself. It's about managing the damage so you can enjoy every moment fully (dancing with a massive bloated belly is not my idea of joy) and hit the ground running in January.

Save the chaos for Christmas Day.

What would you do today to look after the trillions of lovely bugs that depend on this human?

So many of my clients struggle to love themselves at first.

They're so used to putting everyone else ahead of themselves that it can take a huge mindset shift (and some work in their inner child, for sure).

That's why it's easier to focus on the activity.

And... Sometimes... On nourishing those lovely bugs.

Until we can Halt or Heal behaviours (usually by working on the brain and bugs) we can Harness our natural tendencies.

Why am I always banging on about these Ms of Nutrition?

These 6 pillars of holistic nourishment?

Well, as I gradually incorporated them into my life following my breakdown, my depression started to lift. My stress systems started to disappear. My body started to function again. And I eventually, after 6 months of intense research, support and intentional healing, I regained my glow, my energy, my health and my happiness.

It took me years to hone them into the ultimate science and woo woo blend that could heal others in a fraction of the time, but I believe that the Elements of Nutrition of that created (they all begin with M, hence the "Ms of Nutrition" that they go by, these days) cover ALL bases of daily and long term wellbeing.

Microbiome: when they're varied, balanced, in an optimal environment and well fed, our gut (and other) microbiomes manufacture everything we need for optimal physical, mental and emotional health.
