๐ I can definitely resonate with a lot of this ๐ Can you?

Do you do a healthy shop then waste all that amazing, fresh, wholefood because, when it comes to meal times, you think:
it's gonna take you ages to prep & cook
you're not feeling inspired
you don't fancy it
you haven't got the energy
you think half of it is gonna get wasted after you prepared it, coz the rest of the family won't like it
Like so many of us, I have the best intentions, I believe in my solutions, and yet, even with the best will in the world, I sometimes fall short.
And that's okay. Because we're all perfectly imperfect humans, and I'm learning to forgive myself, rather than spending many, exhausting hours beating myself up. Mindset is one of the Ms of Nutrition for soooo many crucial reasons.
It's ADHD Awareness Month and I thought I'd take this chance to share a few things with you.
I'm halfway through an ADHD assessment and it's looking pretty conclusive that I'm neurodiverse in this way. I may also have autism thrown into my own, unique little brain mix, which, honestly, could explain so much (this gal refused to eat anything other than beige mush, pretty much, until she was in her 20s because she couldn't cope with textures and flavours!!!!).
I am so grateful to all my friends, family, clients and customers who have looked past my brain foibles and loved and supported me regardless ๐
I know my ADHD behaviours impact others and, despite having spent thousands and years trying to "fix myself" so that I could function in a world that want designed for people like me, so that I didn't upset others or feel like I was letting them down, I couldn't seem to overcome my idiosyncrasies.
I have so much I want to share around this topic that I think it might end up as a blog, but here are the key points I want to talk with you about so you can understand my current beliefs around the subject. I say, current, because as I learn more, I'm always willing to be curious around, and open to, new, helpful beliefs...
ADHD is a label. Just as Autism Spectrum Disorder is. And every physical and mental health condition you've ever been diagnosed with.
In certain ways, labels can be helpful - they can help us feel a kinship with other people with the same struggles.
They can give us some little lightbulb moments around "ahhh so THAT'S why I feel/can/can't/act x,y,z"
They might give us permission to take time off to rest (which is what our body probably wants, among other things, when it presents you with a certain set of symptoms/messages)
They can often guide generic masking or management of symptoms so that we can get some relief and feel better in the moment. That's how our healthcare system works, rather than identifying our unique root causes and tackling issues at a psychoneuroimmunological level.
In other ways not so much. It's what we choose to make those labels mean to us, that can dictate whether a diagnosis will help or hinder.
We can't always cure or fix everything. But we can choose to give our bodies and minds the best conditions possible, most of the time, so that we are as close to our baseline as we can be.
Following the basics of The M's of Nutrition will largely stop us adding extra, avoidable issues into the mix that can compound or worsen symptoms
or even completely masquerade as labelled conditions
Here's my reality. I've had pretty much all the symptoms of ADHD all my life.
I hit my rock bottom: my mental and physical health breakdown in 2008, due, in part, to trying to thrive in a neurotypical world.
The habit changes I implemented, that were soon to be honed into the Elements of Nutrition or M's of Nutrition, as we now know them, gradually changed my body, my energy, my stress resilience and... The way my brain worked. I was, just "less ADHD".
Well, 3 weeks out of 4, anyway.
During that same week of my cycle, when oestrogen dropped, even all my usual tactics couldn't offset my brain's default.
I upped my dosages of magnesium and phytoestrogens, I rested more, and generally was just that bit kinder to myself and more patient. It all helped so much. (You'll still notice, if you're booking a session on my digital calendar, I have 1 week a month when I try to not to fit too much in)
But, then perimenopause (and now post menopause) kicked in.
And my former tactics didn't quite hit the spot. I was triple booking left, right and centre and generally running about like a crazed loon for around 7 days a month ๐
That's when I devised the Momentum Plan. It had to come about, for my own personal sanity and for the sake of my business!!
For 2 whole months my brain worked in ways I never knew was possible. The fog stopped. The sharpness and clarity of thought and wit astounded me. My memory actually worked.
Of course, I felt great in other ways - the incredible weight loss and the end of bloating and the mood and confidence boost that came with that.
When I thought back to my friend saying that her son was sensitive to sugar and if he had too much his ADHD went through the roof, it all made sense.
When our brains and bodies have the right fuel they work at a different level.
What if your brain could work at its best?
What if your body could work at its best?
Imagine what life could be like.
The Momentum Plan is coming soon. Formulated by myself and a world renowned doctor, who focuses on Nutrition, it could be just what you're looking for. Whatever your symptoms or labels.
It starts at ยฃ5 per week for founding members, plus a ยฃ5 joining fee.
Send me your email to find out more about the launch.
