🩵Last week, we proudly concluded our comprehensive Dementia Awareness Training for the first round of our team members! This intensive course, totalling 15 hours of dedicated training time, is a testament to Mollycare's commitment to delivering the highest standard of person-centred care.🩵
Dementia awareness training is crucial in the homecare sector. The Homecare Association (HCA) emphasises that upskilling care staff is essential for enhancing the quality of life for individuals living with dementia. Given that a significant percentage of people receiving home care are living with some form of dementia, it’s vital that our team is fully equipped with specialist knowledge.
The training equips our Care Professionals with the skills to:
🩵 Improve Communication: Understand non-verbal cues and communicate calmly and compassionately with those who have dementia, reducing frustration and distress.
❤️ Enhance Care Quality: Gain a deeper understanding of the different types and stages of dementia, allowing for highly personalised support tailored to individual needs and preferences.
🩵 Manage Challenging Situations: Learn strategies to proactively identify triggers of distress and respond effectively to behavioural shifts, ensuring a safer and more comfortable environment.
❤️ Promote Dignity and Independence: Focus on person-centred approaches that respect the individual's identity, history, and capabilities, helping them live well with dementia.
Our training commitment goes beyond basic awareness. It involved in-depth modules covering areas such as the anatomy of the brain, the symptoms and diagnosis of dementia, practical tools for support, and legal and ethical considerations. By investing this significant amount of time, we ensure that every member of the Mollycare team is not only knowledgeable but also confident and compassionate in their approach to dementia care.
We're incredibly proud of our team's dedication and commitment to this training. This achievement means better care, better understanding, and better outcomes for the people we support!
