Last night, our residents were treated to a live performance of Handel's Messiah at Derby Cathedral!

Leslie especially couldn't wait to hear the choir again this Christmas, after attending the St John Passion earlier this year. Our ladies also loved hearing the beautiful music, with the Hallelujah Chorus being a highlight!

In all her years living in Derby, it was the first time Joyce has ever been in the Cathedral, so she was delighted to get the opportunity to finally visit. And Dorothy had a lovely surprise when she arrived to see her family, who had tickets also!

(Thanks again goes to Matt, for coming in on a Saturday evening to drive the minibus for us - you're a star ⭐️)

Our memory floor residents enjoyed taking part in a dementia-friendly Christmas quiz today, very kindly led by Sheffield University student Eve.

Eve is currently studying for her Masters Degree in Speech and Language Therapy and is very passionate about adapting and tailoring activities for those with memory-loss. She did a fantastic job this afternoon, getting everyone involved and including all abilities - thank you so much Eve, do come again!

Well done to our winners Janet, Valerie, Jackie and our quiz master John who came to help out!

What a lovely few days we've spent with our Wren Park friends!

🎄First, we took a trip out to watch their Nativity performance. The children were very sweet and put their all into each song, bringing tears to our residents' eyes🥹

🎄Then, we let our creativity shine with some intergenerational Christmas card making. Good job everyone!

🎵REMINI-SING DEMENTIA CHOIR! 🎵

Today, we returned to St Peter's Church Littleover for their annual dementia-friendly Carols & Communion service, followed by refreshments - we had a lovely time, thank you.

And then came the moment we'd all been eagerly anticipating..... the first performance of a brand-new and very special dementia choir. We've been rehearsing over the past few weeks, led by Rachel from Bright Futures and funded by the National Lottery.

We had so much fun singing our hearts out in front of a packed church. It was even more special to see relatives, staff and other residents in the audience, supporting us all the way. Everyone left with a spring in their step, full of the joys of Christmas!

Music has many benefits for those living with dementia, helping to reduce anxiety, depression and generally enhancing quality of life. This was unmistakably the case for our memory care residents who had the time of their lives at these sessions. These are the moments that matter and the memories we'll treasure.

Hope to see you there!

Today, the Avery Healthcare regional team visited to bring Christmas cheer to Middleton Lodge staff as a thank you for all their hard work this year 🥳

Thank you Liza (Senior Regional Director) and Simon (Director of Culinary and Hospitality.... sorry, Elvis the Elf 😂) for the delicious buffet spread and gifts. Merry Christmas to you all!

A few reminders:

📣 Tomorrow is Christmas Jumper Day. We invite you to join staff and residents in wearing your favourite Christmas jumper! Suggested £1 donation towards our chosen charity for the month.

📣 Tomorrow afternoon is also our much-anticipated Dementia-friendly Choir Concert at St Peter's Church. We'll be heading down there at 2pm for a church service first. After that, there will be some refreshments before our residents' performance kicks off at 3pm. Anyone and everyone welcome! Be careful not to drive onto Church Street after 3pm when the school inclusion zone comes into force.

📣 Unfortunately, we're not able to accommodate relatives for Christmas dinner due to space. Instead, week commencing 15th December, we will be offering you the chance to book a Christmas Afternoon Tea with your loved-ones. £10 a head and must be booked in advance.

📣 If possible, we'd be grateful if you could let us know whether you plan to take your loved-ones out on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day. Specifically, whether they will be having their meals at Middleton Lodge, so we can cater accordingly. Thank you!

Thank you all for your ongoing support!

Tonight, we made the most of cancelled plans by getting together for a fun Christmas quiz 🧠📝

Our residents and their loved-ones enjoyed working through 50 questions with categories ranging from festive traditions and music to anagrams and even a few Christmas cracker jokes! It was a lovely atmosphere at the home this evening with everyone enjoying good company, mulled wine and, of course, mince pies.
