We’re pleased to share that the Millbrow clinic in Widnes will soon be relocating to the Highfield Health Clinic. The new site has a rich local history: originally built in 1847 by John McLellan as Highfield Hospital, it later became the Widnes Maternity Home in 1984 and continued providing community midwifery services until 2005.

Highfield Health Clinic offers better access for our service users. It is:
10 minutes’ walk from Widnes Train Station
4 minutes’ walk from the Horse & Jockey Bus Station

The clinic is fully disability‑accessible, with disabled parking, a flat entrance surface and a disabled toilet. In addition to diabetic eye screening, the clinic also hosts blood testing services and diabetic foot checks. This creates opportunities for developing a future one‑stop service for people living with diabetes.

Our first clinic session at Highfield will be an SLB clinic on 1st April 2026. We will also be holding a team meeting on site on the same day.

HSJ Partnership Awards Ceremony

🎉 Although we didn’t take home an award this year, we’re incredibly proud that our Screening Programmes in Central Mersey and Dorset were shortlisted three times across two categories at the HSJ Partnership Awards Ceremony last Thursday.

✅ Most Impactful Partnership in Population Health
✅ Most Impactful Project Addressing Health Inequalities

Our shortlisted work included:
✨ Seeing Everyone: Addressing Barriers of Service Users with Learning Disabilities and Their Carers
✨ The HES Recall Initiative, improving patient care through timely screening follow‑up

It was a great honour to attend the ceremony and meet so many passionate professionals dedicated to improving patient experience.

A huge thank‑you to our NHS partners, including NHS England North West, Knowsley Primary Care Network and University Hospitals Dorset — this recognition reflects our shared commitment to delivering better outcomes for patients.

🎉 Congratulations to our screener Kelly Caine – NEC VIP Award Winner (3rd Place)! 🎉

We’re delighted to celebrate Kelly Caine, who has achieved 3rd place in the VIP (Value in Practice) Awards!
Kelly’s dedication, warmth, and professionalism shine through in every screening appointment — and her patients agree:

✨ "At my recent eye screening appointment at Asda St Helens, on 4th February 2026 at 3.30pm. The screener was persistently professional and caring throughout. Nothing was too much trouble and she had time and patience for every one."

✨"Kelly was so friendly and kind. Diabetic eye screening can be scary and she was wonderful."

✨"She was so welcoming, greeted you with a smiling friendly attitude"

This award is a fantastic recognition of the compassion and excellence Kelly brings to her role every day. We’re incredibly proud to have her on our team.

Please join us in congratulating Kelly on this well‑deserved achievement! 👏💙

The 4Ts are signs of type 1 diabetes in children (and adults).

They’re simple to remember and if you spot any of these signs, at any time, see a doctor for a diabetes test immediately:

Toilet (increased wees and wet nappies or unusual bed wetting) 🚽
Thirsty (drinking lots) 💧
Tired (more than usual) 😴
Thinner (the child may look or feel thinner or their clothes may be looser) ⚖️

While these symptoms don’t always mean diabetes, they should be checked immediately. As if type 1 diabetes is left undiagnosed, it can make you really ill, really quickly and lead to a potentially fatal condition called diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).

Please hit share and help spread awareness of the 4Ts.

Together, we can save lives.
