Remembrance Sunday

To those who served, and those who still do, today as a nation we give you our thanks and respect.

We honour those who fought so that we can live our life free.

At New Day Care we care & support for those who lived and were affected by the Second World War, and can tell stories of conditions we can only imagine living in now.

🎃 HAPPY HALLOWEEN 🎃

⚰ FUN FACTS......

❌ SAMHAINOPHOBIA - An intense or persistent fear of Halloween.

👻 WICCE - The word witch comes from the Old English Wicce, meaning "wise women". At one time, witches where highly respected and according to some people, witches held meetings that where known as Sabbats on Halloween night.

🧠 WORLD STROKE DAY 🧠

October 29th marks World Stroke Day, with this years theme being aimed at acting FAST.

🌍 Every 2 seconds, someone around the world has a stroke.

It is imperative to know the signs of a stroke, and all our care givers here at New Day Care undertake Stroke Awareness training that provides them with a knowledge and skill set to assist anyone showing signs & symptoms of a stroke.

Do you know what steps to take in the event of a stroke?

💭 Think...
F - Facial Weakness
A - Arm Weakness
S - Slurred Speech
T - Time to act.

Anyone experiencing any of the above need immediate medical attention. The faster you act, the sooner someone gets the treatment they need.

✨ FEEDBACK FRIDAY ✨

This week we are dedicating Feedback Friday to our amazing in-house office team, who work endlessly around the clock, whether that be ensuring all our service users have care and support each day, to covering in the field when needed, ordering medications, completing that all important paperwork and the general day to day running of the office. People don't always see the hardwork that goes on behind the scenes.

We had some lovely feedback below from a family member of a service user.

We would also like to say a massive thank you to you for all your hard work and dedication.

🌍 WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 🌍

Each year on the 10th October, marks World Mental Health Day. World Mental Health day is a reminder of the absolute importance on good mental health, and the need to prioritise & invest in your mental health.

This year the theme is "Access to Services - Mental Health in catastrophes & emergencies" The aim for this year is to highlight the need for people to protect their mental health in times of "global instability".

Part of the theme this year, surrounds the access that we have to social media, and having access to negative news continually and how this can affect our Mental Health.

The Health Foundation have released some publications surrounding the signs and symptoms of "doom scrolling" and how to ease these, by following tips such as:
🩵Turning off Push Notifications.
🩷Setting a Time Limit to Scrolling.
💙Managing what you can and cannot see on your News Feeds.
🩵Try having a zone free area in your home.

Further information on this years theme, signs & symptoms and further support and guidance can be found on the Mental Health Foundation Website.

To raise awareness and support, our very own Rosie will be taking part in walking 100 miles throughout November. Keep your eyes peeled on how to donate or get involved yourself, to help this great cause.

And if your struggling with your own mental health, or know someone who is, just know that you are not alone in this storm, and people are around you to talk to. Please don't feel you have to face things alone, take a look at the website for ways you can help yours or someone you knows mental health.

✨ FEEDBACK FRIDAY ✨

Feedback isn't always received from service users, their families or staff members, we also receive great feedback from the professionals who we work alongside when supporting our service users.

It is always a great pleasure to hear that the work we do, does not go unnoticed.

Take a look below on the feedback we received from a social worker we work alongside.

Excellent, as always.

💭 LETS TALK ABOUT..... FLU 💭

Also known as Influenza.

Flu is more serious than a common cold and can lead to pneumonia, hospitalisation and death, with around 8,000 people dying from flu in England last winter.

The best way to get protected is to have the flu vaccination, this is free for those aged 65 & over, pregnant women, people of any age with underlying medication conditions and front line health & social care workers.

Flu season is at it's peak between the months of October & February, and the vaccination offers is best protection within the first 3 months of being administered, meaning getting the vaccination in October provides you with optimal protection.

Health & Social care workers are more likely to catch & spread flu, meaning it is important to protect those we care and support for, especially as they are at higher risk of complications from flu.

You can arrange your FREE flu vaccination by booking this via the NHS app, dialling 119, or visiting your nearest pharmacy that provide a walk-in service.
