I follow Dave on Facebook and was lucky enough to meet him this summer, swim with him and have a chat. He appears like any ordinary guy but look beneath and you’ll see someone quite extraordinary. Dave has suffered from extreme pain most days since he broke is back age 16. In the past his back spasms have been so debilitating that he’s taken to his bed for months at a time. Latterly he’s found the magic that enables him to live his life as he wants to and that’s through cold water swimming. Every morning Dave is up and in his favourite lake by 5.30am for a half hour swim before work. He’s on crutches but he makes his way along the ten minute walk on the woodland path near the lake where he can enter the water safely. Now this is fairly easy when it’s light and warm but Dave is in there whatever the weather (which can be really wild in North Wales). He doesn’t miss a beat. Across the icy wooden bridge, through the rocky path and boggy lake edge and into the balm of the icy water. His mental toughness is an inspiration. Think about the last week of weather and then think of Dave embracing the cold because he knows that icy water calms his pain and brings him peace. I look forward to his daily posts because he reminds me of what is possible and to never give up no matter what. What an inspiration this man is. If you want to catch up with Dave then please join Open Water Swimming UK and you’ll see his posts each morning. And if you have physical pain or mental anguish, please consider cold water swimming. It might just be the magic you need too. It’s certainly magical to me ✨

Are you struggling with a tight neck and shoulders because of working on computers for example or just because of the stresses in life? NRT quickly and completely relaxes the muscles and leaves you feeling pain free, looser and refreshed. Works well on headaches too which are often caused by excess muscle tension in the neck and shoulders. Sound familiar? Why not try NRT and give me a call to arrange a session? Feeling is believing 😀👍🏼

Top tip for good health……Take an early-morning walk 😊

Banking 10,000 steps a day is one of the magic numbers that self-tracking health nerds all aspire to, but how and when you get those steps can have a big impact on just how beneficial the exercise is. A purposeful stomp soon after you wake can improve your sleep, speed up your metabolism and boost your mood and cognitive function.

It’s about the time you go for your walk and the briskness of your pace. The advantage of an early-morning walk is that you get out there and get exposed to light, which will reset your internal clock, and we know that light is a powerful suppressor of melatonin and gets you going.

As well as shutting down melatonin, which is a hormone that makes you feel tired, exposure to sunlight also boosts serotonin, improving your mood. The earlier you do it, the better the effects seem to be. In research from Tokyo University of Science, insomnia sufferers found it easier to drop off and woke up less frequently after engaging with early-morning exercise.

The briskness seems to be important too. You get more benefit if you’re doing more than 100 steps a minute than if you’re doing under. If you can aim for 120 there seems to be something optimal about that.

A study involving 50,000 people by Ulster University found that getting a move on when you walk can boost its effectiveness by 20-50 per cent, with a significant reduction in your risk of cardiovascular disease. Up and at them, and all that.

Well this is a first! Exercise that is easier is more beneficial?! According to the latest research, walking down the stairs is better for our muscles than walking up them and this is because when we do eccentric exercise, as in lengthening our muscles such as when we are lowering into a squat rather than pushing up out of it, we build greater strength in our muscles. Substantially more. Yoga and pilates feature poses which require you to slowly lower yourself, thereby causing an eccentric contraction, which will increase muscle mass and therefore strength. They also have the added bonus of increasing flexibility and helping us to maintain balance. Win win! 😊👍🏼

Hi. I’m a Andi and I’m a pain relief therapist. One of the therapies I use is Neural Reset Therapy which is quite different from most other pain relief systems, it’s based on scientific principles and is highly effective.

NRT accesses the nervous system to instruct the brain to release excess tightness in the muscles that are causing pain. It can relieve a whole host of structural pain issues from top to toe including neck, back, hip and knee pain but the list goes on….. and because NRT is so gentle it’s suitable for any age. When muscles are relaxed, our own bodies can assist in the healing process by sending oxygen and nutrients more effectively into the affected area and removing waste products. You remain fully clothed. You will only feel a gentle jostling and tapping into the nervous system and it is minimally invasive. Many clients express a feeling of looseness and relaxation at the end of the session, but more importantly, a relief from pain.

If you or anyone you know have been putting up with structural pain and have tried other therapies without success, why not try NRT? I look forward to helping you!

Neural Reset Therapy: Resetting the Nervous System to Relieve Muscle Pain Fast

Welcome to the most cutting-edge manual bodywork technique - Neural Reset Therapy (or NRT). It's an incredibly effective way to manipulate the nervous system to cause a ‘reset’ in a tight muscle so it can return to it's original, healthy tonus in just minutes thereby alleviating pain, increasing circulation and improving range of motion.

The work is done with client partcipation while lying on a massage table. It’s quick and comfortable as you remain fully clothed and no oils are needed. Pain relief comes in seconds with no deep pressure required.

Although NRT is based on basic laws of anatomy and neurology it feels like magic! If you have muscular pain or tightness you'll be amazed by this fun and easy approach to pain relief!
