Now there’s a multitude of ways to throw the kitchen disco, there is the solo option everyone’s out your headphones are on and your throwing your shapes out singing at the top of your voice with the voice of an angel hitting all those Celine top notes with ease, wondering why you never auditioned for X factor when it was in its prime. Or there’s the social option the mates are round and you’ve decided to the other occupants in the house dismay that you all have the vocal and dancing talents of girls aloud.
But did you know that the humble kitchen disco has a variety of benefits for our physical and mental including
Dancing is one of those incredible exercises that hits several different body systems at once. It gets our heart rates going, and works our cardio respiratory system meaning hearts and lungs together.
Due to its increase in certain brain activity, dance can also help to improve memory, the ability we have to multitask and can help older people’s brains form new interconnections and work more quickly.
Beyond the many benefits to our physical health, it can also be fantastic for our overall mental health, endorphins are released when we exercise. These go all around your body to help you feel happier and more content, but also less stressed and less susceptible to feelings of physical discomfort or pain. By doing some exercise that we enjoy, we get a mood-enhancing boost afterward.
Getting moving is all about finding what you enjoy and what feels good. Dance is a great way to switch off from the busyness of our daily lives and concentrate on the moves, the music and just having a good time.
