🎶 Harlem of Europe – Liverpool Exhibition

Did you know Toxteth was once known as the “Harlem of Europe”?

There’s a brilliant exhibition at the Victoria Gallery & Museum celebrating the incredible Black musicians from L8 in the 1950s and 60s whose talent helped shape Liverpool’s music scene and influenced big names like The Beatles.

📅 It’s running until 26 April 2026, so you’ve got plenty of time to go and see it.

It’s free, full of powerful photos and stories, and proper boss if you want to learn more about our city’s musical roots. 🎷🎸

Well worth a visit if you fancy getting schooled in some local heritage! 🇬🇧💥

🐶 It’s Crufts weekend, and while most of us are watching from the sofa, we’re wishing we could be there in person!

Owning a dog isn’t just great for cuddles and companionship – it can also bring real health benefits. Dogs help keep us active with regular walks, can reduce stress and anxiety, and often help people feel less lonely. Many owners also find their four-legged friends encourage them to spend more time outdoors and connect with others in the community.

Whether you’re watching the agility, the obedience, or just admiring all the gorgeous pups, we hope you enjoy the weekend as much as we do (even if it’s from afar!).

🐾 From all of us at Great Homee Street Medical Centre – give your dog an extra pat from us!

🌍💙 Celebrating Our Overseas NHS Workers 💙🌍

Today we want to say a heartfelt thank you to the incredible overseas staff who are such a vital part of the NHS.

From doctors and nurses to healthcare assistants, receptionists and support teams — so many of our colleagues have travelled far from home to care for our communities here in the UK. Your dedication, skill, compassion and resilience do not go unnoticed.

At Great Homer Street Medical Centre, we are proud to work alongside people from diverse backgrounds who make our practice — and our community — stronger every day.

Thank you for everything you do for our patients and for the NHS 💙

💙 A Little Bit of Everton 💙

Did you know Everton is home to one of the oldest public parks in Liverpool? 🌳

Prince’s Park isn’t the only historic green space — Everton Park offers some of the best views across the city skyline, stretching right across to the River Mersey. On a clear day, the sunsets up there are something special.

Everton has a proud history, strong community spirit, and generations of families who’ve called it home. We’re proud to serve such a resilient and welcoming part of Liverpool.

What’s your favourite thing about Everton? 💙

🧠✨ Weird Medical Fact Wednesday! ✨🧠

Did you know… you’re actually a little bit taller in the morning than you are at night?

While you sleep, the discs in your spine re-hydrate and expand. During the day, gravity gently squashes them back down — meaning you can shrink by up to 1–2cm by bedtime! 😲

The human body never stops surprising us!

Happy Wednesday from Great Homer Street Medical Centre 💙

💙 Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month 💙

Ovarian cancer can be hard to spot, but knowing the symptoms could save a life.

Look out for:
• Persistent bloating
• Feeling full quickly or loss of appetite
• Pelvic or abdominal pain
• Needing to wee more often

If these symptoms are new, happen most days, and last for 3 weeks or more — please contact Great Homer Street Medical Centre to speak to a GP.

💙 Rare Disease Day 💙

Today is Rare Disease Day — a day to raise awareness of the millions of people living with rare conditions across the UK and around the world.

A disease is classed as rare if it affects fewer than 1 in 2,000 people — but together, rare diseases affect around 1 in 17 people in their lifetime. That means many families in our community are touched by one.

Living with a rare condition can mean:
🔹 Long waits for diagnosis
🔹 Lots of appointments
🔹 Feeling misunderstood or unheard

At Great Homer Street Medical Centre, we want our patients living with rare conditions to know — we see you, we hear you, and we’re here to support you.

For more information and support, you can visit:
👉 Genetic Alliance UK
👉 NHS website for condition-specific advice

If you’re struggling or waiting for answers, please reach out to us. You’re not on your own 💙
