💜 Domestic Violence Awareness Day 💜

Today we’re taking a moment to shine a light on something really important — domestic abuse can affect anyone, and no one should deal with it alone.

If you’re feeling unsafe at home, worried about a friend, or just need someone to talk to, please reach out. You’re not being a bother, and you’re not wasting anyone’s time — we’re here to help.

There’s support out there day and night, including:

👉 Liverpool Domestic Abuse Service (LDAS) – confidential advice and support

👉 Refuge’s 24/7 National Domestic Abuse Helpline – 0808 2000 247

👉 Bright Sky App – for information and safe ways to get help

If you ever need a safe space or a quiet chat, pop into the surgery. You won’t be judged, and everything is kept confidential.

You’re not alone, and help is always available. 💜

🎄✨ It’s officially December… which means the decorations are coming out! ✨🎄

Whether you’re team “tree up on 1st December” or still wrestling with that box of tangled lights, it’s the perfect time to bring a bit of sparkle into these dark evenings.

We’re getting festive here at the surgery too — and we LOVE the Christmas-themed photo that’s been shared with this post. Nothing like a couple of adorable dogs to kick off the season properly! 🐾💙

Feel free to share your own festive snaps or decoration disasters (we’ve all been there!).

Here’s to a cosy, twinkly December! ❄️💙

🍲 Winter Warmers on a Budget ❄️
As the weather turns colder, cooking can feel harder — especially when you’re trying to keep meals tasty and affordable. But you don’t need fancy ingredients to make something warm and comforting!

Batch cooking soups, stews, pasta bakes or curries can save money and time — plus they’re perfect for freezing and reheating on busy days. Even simple things like adding extra veg, using tinned ingredients, or swapping meat for beans can keep costs down while still filling you up.

If you’re struggling with food costs this winter, you’re not alone — and there’s support out there:

🍽 Local Help in Liverpool:
• L6 Community Centre – hot meals, food support & cooking classes
• Fans Supporting Foodbanks – community foodbank support
• The Florr (Di**le) – low-cost veg boxes & community meals
• Micah Liverpool – food aid & support services
• Your local Warm Hub – free warm spaces with hot drinks, snacks, and a chat

If you ever need help or you're worried about food bills, let a member of our team know — we’re always here to support you.

Stay warm, eat well, and look after yourself this winter. 💙❄️

💙 Self-Care Starts With Small Steps 💙

At Great Homer Street Surgery, we know life can feel overwhelming—especially in a community where many of us juggle health challenges, work, family, and everything in between.

This Self-Care Week, we’re reminding our patients that looking after yourself doesn’t have to be big or expensive. Small daily habits can make a real difference to your physical and mental wellbeing:
🧘‍♀️ A short walk
🍲 A nourishing meal
💬 Talking to someone you trust
💧 Drinking plenty of water
😴 Getting enough rest

And remember—you’re not on your own. Our team is here to support you every step of the way. If you need help with your health, managing long-term conditions, or finding local support services, please get in touch.

Let’s take care of ourselves, and each other. 💙

🧡 It’s Carers Rights Day!

A huge shout-out to all the unpaid carers in our community. Whether you’re looking after a parent, partner, child or neighbour — we see you, and we know how tough it can be.

If you’re a carer in North or Central Liverpool, here’s some support you can get:

✔ Carer’s Assessment
You can get one through Liverpool City Council — it’s about your needs and what help would make life easier.

✔ Financial Support
You might be able to claim Carer’s Allowance, Carer’s Credit or even a council tax discount.

✔ Local Carers Support
The Liverpool Carers Centre (Edge Lane) offers advice, wellbeing sessions and a friendly place to talk. They’re lovely — and they get it.

✔ Help through the NHS
Mersey Care also run support for carers, especially if the person you care for has mental health needs.

If you’re a carer and haven’t told us yet, please do — we can help point you in the right direction or link you with local support.

Today we just want to say: you matter, and you deserve support too. 🧡
