Most marathon injuries don’t happen because runners are “doing too much.”
They happen because recovery doesn’t match the load.
Every season I see the same pattern:
⬆️ Mileage increases
⬇️ Sleep quality drops
⬇️ Fueling becomes inconsistent
❌ Strength training disappears
⚠️ Niggles get ignored
Then 3–5 weeks before race day… something gives.
Marathon prep isn’t just about building fitness.
It’s about building tissue tolerance and managing fatigue.
If you’re training right now, ask yourself:
– Are you genuinely recovering between sessions?
– Are you strong enough for the mileage you’re running?
– Are you hoping that “tight calf” just goes away?
Save this as a checklist for the next 6–8 weeks.
And if something’s been niggling — sort it early.
Race day should feel exciting, not uncertain!
