💙 “Be There” – 103-Year-Old Bob Sees the World Through the Eyes of His Care Professional 💙
Radfield Home Care is proud to share a truly heartwarming “Be There” moment — a powerful example of how meaningful companionship can transform lives and reconnect people with the world around them.
Jade, one of Radfield’s dedicated Care Professionals, provides companionship support to Bob, a remarkable 103-year-old gentleman who lives in a care home and enjoys four-hour outings with Jade every fortnight.
These visits are far more than trips out — they are journeys through memories, friendship, and renewed independence.
Born in Everton and later moving to Crosby with his beloved wife, Bob has lived a rich and fascinating life. A skilled engineer during the war years, he once dreamed of joining the RAF but was told his talents were needed in weapon manufacturing.
While initially disappointed, he went on to take great pride in his work and contribution.
A passionate singer and lifelong admirer of Frank Sinatra, Bob met his wife through singing lessons — something he still speaks about with great affection. He was also an enthusiastic walker, with a local walking group, some of whom he still keeps in touch with today.
Despite losing his sight following a fall at the age of 100 — after living independently in his own home until then — Bob continues to live life with curiosity and joy.
Through Radfield Home Care’s companionship support, Jade enables Bob to revisit places filled with meaning and create new memories. Together they have travelled to:
* Parbold Hill
* Everton Valley
* Southport Botanic Gardens
* The resting places of close friends, where Bob has laid flowers
Jade even researches locations in advance so Bob can reconnect with his past.
During each visit, Bob experiences the world through Jade’s vivid descriptions — the changing landscapes, new buildings, modernised streets, local pubs and restaurants, and the colours and atmosphere of every place they go. These moments allow him to visualise the world once again.
Bob also enjoys going out for lunch and dessert — simple pleasures that bring enormous happiness.
Jade said:
“Bob is a wonderful man who I am very lucky to have the pleasure of being around. He is an inspiration to others and has become part of my work life — I treat Bob as if he were my own family member.”
In a special and touching next chapter, Bob will be attending Radfield Home Care’s Friendship Afternoon Tea at Marine in the Community on Monday 11th May as a VIP guest, accompanied by Jade and four of his friends.
The event will include a live performance by Dave Benjamin — and, as a lifelong Frank Sinatra fan, Bob will enjoy hearing some of his favourite songs, with the possibility of a very special duet.
This moment perfectly captures the spirit of Radfield Home Care’s “Be There” initiative — supporting people to stay connected to the lives, memories, people, and experiences that matter most.
Jade’s dedication reflects the very best of the adult social care sector, and Radfield Home Care proudly recognises her as a true credit to her profession.
Radfield Home Care would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to Bob for sharing his extraordinary life story — a true gentleman whose experiences continue to inspire everyone around him.
