We are an NHS GP practice serving over 6,000 patients in Wavertree and Childwall, delivering first-class, patient-centred care from our historic Penny Lane premises. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, how you contact us will be different at the moment. This is to limit face-to-face contact whenever possible and help stop the spread of coronavirus. We are open and if you need to see your GP, please visit our website www.pennylanesurgery.nhs.uk to complete an e-consultation. If your query is urgent or you are unable to complete an e-consultation, please ring us on 0151 733 2800. Please be aware that you may be asked to call us back after 1pm if our morning appointments have been booked. Face-to-face appointments are available to all patients, but you may be asked to discuss your conditions over the phone or online first to assess what would be most appropriate for you. Please do not come to the surgery unless you have an appointment. If you are asked to come into the surgery for a face-to-face appointment, please remember to wear a face covering. Measures are in place to keep you safe from infection during your visit to the surgery. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Itโ€™s Bonfire Night tomorrow! Do you know how to treat a burn? ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Accidents can happen, so itโ€™s important to know what to do if someone gets burned or scalded. Acting quickly and correctly can help limit skin damage.

๐Ÿ‘‰ First Aid for Burns:

Stop the burning process โ€” remove the person from danger, douse flames with water, or smother with a blanket (but donโ€™t put yourself at risk!).

Remove any clothing or jewellery near the burnt area of skin, including babies' nappies. But do not try to remove anything that's stuck to the burnt skin, as this could cause more damage.

Cool the burn with cool or lukewarm running water for 20 minutes as soon as possible.
โŒ Donโ€™t use ice, creams, butter, or greasy substances.

Keep yourself or the person warm. Use a blanket or layers of clothing, but avoid putting them on the injured area. Keeping warm will prevent hypothermia, where a person's body temperature drops below 35C (95F). This is a risk if you're cooling a large burnt area, particularly in young children and elderly people.

Cover the burn with cling film (lay it over gently, donโ€™t wrap it). For hand burns, a clean plastic bag works well.

Treat pain with paracetamol or ibuprofen (check the instructions carefully โ€” no aspirin for children under 16).

Raise the area if possible to reduce swelling.

๐Ÿš‘ Go to A&E if the burn is:

Larger than the personโ€™s hand

Deep, white, or charred

On the face, neck, hands, feet, joints, or ge****ls

Caused by chemicals or electricity

Showing signs of shock (clammy skin, sweating, dizziness, rapid breathing)

Also seek medical help if the person is under 10, has a medical condition, such as heart, lung or liver disease, or diabetes has a weakened immune system (the body's defence system) โ€“ for example, because of HIV or AIDS, or because they're having chemotherapy for cancer.

Stay safe and enjoy Bonfire Night responsibly! ๐ŸŽ†โœจ

Pancreatic cancer is hard to diagnose and difficult to treat, so early detection can help save lives.

But most people canโ€™t name the symptoms of pancreatic cancer. Can you?

Someone with pancreatic cancer may not have all the symptoms listed here, as they vary for each person, but if you know the symptoms, there's a better chance you, or someone close to you, will be diagnosed early enough for treatment.

๐Ÿฆด Today is World Osteoporosis Day! ๐ŸŒ
Did you know?

๐Ÿ‘‰ 1 in 3 women over 50
๐Ÿ‘‰ 1 in 5 men over 50
โ€ฆwill experience osteoporotic fractures in their lifetime.

In fact, in women, these fractures are more common than breast cancer.

๐Ÿ’ช Hereโ€™s how to protect your bones:

๐Ÿฅฆ Eat for bone health
A balanced diet rich in calcium, vitamin D, vitamin K, and protein helps keep your bones strong.

๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ Move your bones
Targeted exercise (like walking, lifting weights, or climbing stairs) improves bone strength, posture, and balance.

๐Ÿšญ Avoid bone-damaging habits
Quit smoking and reduce alcohol โ€“ both are major risk factors for bone loss.

๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ Prevent falls and fractures
Assess your home for fall risks and make necessary safety changes to avoid injuries.

This October, letโ€™s commit to stronger bones and a healthier future.
Walk, run, lift, climb - keep your bones moving!
