Meet the Team 💚

We’re delighted to welcome Sarah Casewell to Liverpool Occupational Therapy Services as our new Occupational Therapy Assistant.

Sarah brings a wonderfully creative background to the team, having studied BA (Hons) Acting and Performance while working in a nursery in her hometown in Wales. She has lots of experience leading creative activities and is passionate about supporting children and young people in ways that feel engaging, playful, and meaningful.

Sarah loves getting to know each child as an individual, celebrating their unique personalities and using imagination and creativity to help them build skills and confidence in everyday activities.

When she’s not at work, you’ll likely find Sarah learning how to play a musical instrument, dreaming up ideas for a play, or enjoying a good cup of coffee ☕🎭🎶

We’re so pleased to have Sarah as part of the LOTS team and can’t wait for families and schools to meet her.

Today, Kerry carried out a Movement Assessment Battery with a child presenting with motor and coordination difficulties.

This structured assessment helps build a clear picture of a child’s abilities across three key motor areas: manual dexterity, aiming and catching, and balance and locomotion.

The results don’t just highlight current areas of need, they also guide a tailored clinical intervention plan, helping ensure the right support is put in place to strengthen functional motor skills for everyday activities and school life 💙

We had an amazing content day with our brilliant photographer Gareth Lowe Photography, capturing our team in action and some fresh new images to showcase what we do best 💚💙

From hands-on activities with children, to team planning sessions, it was a full day of fun, creativity, and collaboration. We can’t wait to share the results with you.

These new photos really highlight the people, passion, and practical strategies that make our services unique.

A huge thank you to Gareth for helping us bring these moments to life and capturing the heart of our work (and even teaching our models how to take photos themselves!) 📸

Stay tuned…we’ll be sharing the new images over the coming weeks

Each Wednesday, Kerry gets to work alongside a Speech and Language Therapist and we love seeing this kind of joined-up support in action 🤝

When OT and SALT work together, it means a more holistic approach for the children and young people we support - looking at learning and development from every angle.

By collaborating, we can deliver interventions that support physical, sensory, and communication needs all at the same time, giving students the best possible foundations to grow and succeed 💙

Happy Valentine’s Day 💚 💙

We love our jobs in Merseyside because every day we get to help children build confidence, independence, and practical skills that make life a little easier, and a lot brighter. Seeing them achieve their goals, try new things, and grow in their own way is what makes our work so special 🧩

With half term coming up next week, it’s a great time to enjoy some accessible activities around the city:
✨ Lumiere Soft play and Sensory Centre
🌳 Get outside in local parks for movement and play
🎨 Try creative activities at The Young Blue Room at The Bluecoat on the 21st February (suitable for ages 14 - 18 years old)
👐 Visit the SEN-friendly hour at Jump Inc by AirHop Adventure & Trampoline Park Liverpool on Mondays between 6pm -7pm

Supporting children doesn’t stop in our sessions. It’s about creating opportunities for them to learn, explore, and have fun safely and confidently.

Could a little extra help make a big difference? 🧩💚

Occupational Therapy supports children in lots of ways, helping them develop the skills they need to feel confident, independent, and happy both at home and at school.

This can include:
✏️ Handwriting and daily skills – from using cutlery to getting dressed, we help children build practical skills for everyday life.
🤝 Friendships and confidence – supporting social skills, turn-taking, and understanding others to help children feel included and connected.
🧠 Emotional regulation – teaching strategies to manage big feelings, stay calm, and cope with challenges.

Every child is unique, so we create a tailored approach that focuses on their individual strengths and goals. Even small changes can lead to big progress, helping children thrive in all areas of their life.

If you’re curious about how our Occupational Therapists could support your child, get in touch today to explore what’s possible 💚

Wednesday Win 🎉

Today, Ashleigh had great feedback from a Head Teacher who said the Occupational Therapy passport she created for a child has had a positive impact in supporting staff. This has allowed everyone to have a better understanding of the pupils’ needs and how to meet them.

Well done, Ashleigh 👏

Children don’t learn and grow in just one place…what happens at home and at school are closely connected 🏠🏫

Occupational Therapy looks at the whole picture, supporting children in the environments that matter most to them. This might include:
🧩 Developing independence with daily routines such as dressing, organising belongings, or managing transitions
✏️ Supporting handwriting, attention, and participation in classroom activities
🤝 Building confidence with social interaction and group work
🧠 Helping children regulate emotions and sensory needs across different settings

By working closely with families and schools, strategies can be consistent, practical, and meaningful, helping children feel more confident and capable wherever they are.

Today is Time to Talk Day 💬

For many children, communication doesn’t always come easily. Finding the right words, joining conversations, or understanding social cues can feel challenging, and that can affect friendships, confidence, and participation at school.

Occupational Therapy can play an important role in supporting communication in everyday life. This might include helping children:
✏️ Develop the fine motor skills needed for writing and recording ideas
🤝 Build confidence with turn-taking, friendships, and group work
🧠 Understand social situations and emotional cues
🏫 Feel more comfortable expressing needs at home and in school

Creating safe spaces where children feel heard, understood, and supported makes a real difference over time.

On Time to Talk Day, we’re reminded that every conversation matters, and that with the right support, children can find their voice in ways that work for them.

If you’d like to talk about how Occupational Therapy could support a child you care for or work with, please get in touch with our team.
