⚠️ Meningitis Outbreak – Please Be Aware

There has been a serious meningitis outbreak in the Canterbury area. Sadly, some young people have lost their lives.
Meningitis can make someone very unwell very quickly, so knowing the signs really can help save a life.

Symptoms to look out for:
• High temperature
• Being sick or feeling very unwell
• Severe headache
• Stiff neck
• Not liking bright lights
• Very sleepy, confused, or difficult to wake
• A rash that doesn’t fade when you press a glass on it

Symptoms in babies:
• Unusual crying
• Irritability
• Refusing feeds
• Cold hands and feet

If you're worried about meningitis, do not wait.
Call 999 or go straight to A&E.

Vaccinations that help protect against meningitis:
• MenB vaccine (offered to those born after May 2015) given routinely at 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 1 year, is only available privately for those outside of that age range.
• 6‑in‑1
• Pneumococcal (PCV)
• MMRV
• MenACWY (with catch‑up available up to age 25)

These vaccines are part of the routine NHS schedule and offer strong protection at the ages when children and young people are most at risk.

Not sure if you or your child are up to date?
You can check on the NHS App, or get in touch with the practice and we can check for you.

Stay safe and please share to help raise awareness. 💙

♻️ Return your used inhalers to your local pharmacy!
Some inhalers contain potent greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change, even when they’re empty. By handing them back, you help safely destroy these gases and keep plastics out of landfill. 🌍💚

Don’t throw inhalers in household waste or recycling bins.
Make each puff count and only order what you need.
If you’re worried about the environmental impact of your inhaler, speak to your GP. And remember, don’t stop using your inhaler.
