Dr Vodders Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD):

MLD was first devised by Dr Emil Vodder and his wife Estrid Vodder in the early 1030's in France. It is a technique which is practiced in many European hospitals and clinics today. Dr Vodder therapists are required to attend review classes every 2 years for re-certification. MLD is an advanced therapy in which the practitioner uses a range of specialized and gentle rhythmic pumping techniques to move the skin in the direction of the lymph flow. This stimulates the lymphatic vessels, which carry substances vital to the defense of the body and removes waste products. MLD can also be applied to help re-route the lymph flow around and away from blocked, swollen or damaged areas to other healthy functioning lymph vessels. The effects of MLD are numerous:

It generally affects your autonomic nervous system; causing an overall pleasant and relaxing effect. It may have an effect on your immune system and in thus doing so ward of illness. The first session will involve a short consultation to determine the client’s needs and at this stage the number and frequency of future sessions will be decided upon.
