I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm taking a sabbatical from counselling for the foreseeable future. Life often takes some unexpected turns and this is one that I certainly never anticipated.

I love my role as a counsellor but sometimes opportunities come along which make you question everything you hold dear. This is one of those moments for me and it's with a very heavy heart that I leave counselling behind (for the time being) to pursue a career which will use everything I've learned as a counsellor to help people in a very different way. Working with trauma is my passion and to have an opportunity to work with it at policy level is something that I only ever dreamed of doing, but that dream has now become a reality.

Today on World Mental Health Day I've spent my 3rd day at The Compassion Focused Therapy conference and it has re-inforced the need for us all to be compassionate to ourselves as well as to others. Be kind to yourselves and know that there is no shame in asking for help and facing your vulnerability. We are all human and it's our humanness that connects us all. We may feel like drops in the ocean but drops lead to ripples; and ripples lead to waves which lead to change. You do matter!
