Today was a good day. I woke up to Eryri covered in a blanket of snow. Magical!
It’s two years since getting a nasty case of Covid which became long Covid with the added bonus of Costochondritis - inflammation of the cartilage of the sternum causing pain when breathing and exercising.
Basically Covid and the chest infection I got with it caused my breathing to go out of wack …apparently quite common in people who have had Covid.
I have been working hard to improve my breathing pattern and to breathe through my nose and use my diaphragm, otherwise it puts too much pressure on my chest and causes me pain. Thanks
The saying you don’t know unless you try!
So today I venture out on a slow walk up Moel Elio. Really concentrating on my breathing pattern.
Talking makes my chest bad so going on my own gave me the best chance. If you know me you know I love to talk. Which has been slightly problematic.
It really is as a joy to be out. Taking my time and appreciating how utterly beautiful it was. Even more special when it’s been so long.
I’ve made a lot of progress in the last year. Starting to get more energy back to go on walks. Managing this with lots of pacing and resting in between.
Listening to my body is key. Viruses can knock your body for six and mine has been slowly rebooting and still is.
When you feel ill you have no interest in getting outside and being active it’s almost incomprehensible. So I oddly haven’t missed my old life. You learn to adapt and find new ways to enjoy life. Thank god I’ve had arts and crafts, reading books and sudoku to fall back on.
I’m sat on the sofa feeling happy, exhausted and sore… maybe the cold air and the deep snow was a bit much but good it was good to try. Hopefully I haven’t set myself back too much. But to anyone with long Covid hopefully there is light at the end of tunnel.
Sunshine is big healer. Never underestimate someone’s illness or pain. You can still be smiling and be in pain or exhausted . Time is a great healer. Your body knows best. Listen to it. Tag a friend who’s got long covid or is hopefully recovering / recovered. Top tips welcome. ❤️to hear your recovery stories!
