This has come up a lot lately.
How to cope with phobias, if you know anyone going through any phobias, here are some coping strategies.
When you have any type of fear where is takes over your thoughts and sometimes your life.
Your brain threat detection system is on high alert scanning the environment for the eg object,
animal, spider etc this phobia has come from trauma or learnt fear.
Here are some tips to help to overcome phobias, triggers and trauma.
Understand your phobia & triggers
Start with small steps for eg if you have a fear of spiders - say that you are safe and protected - all fears are about not feeling safe.
Look at a picture of the object then build on this and keep saying that you are safe & slow deep breaths count 4 hold 4 then breathe out 4.
When you are ready to go in a room with the object and keep saying you are safe and slow breaths.
Say affirmations “ I am letting go of feeling scared of …….. in its place “I am safe & protected” I believe in me, I am kind to me, I trust I am safe & well. record & listen and say this often for at least 21 days.
Remember to use slow breath, count in 4 then hold 4 then breathe out 4.
Keep thinking I am safe, I am protected.
