Here is why.
Replacing the milk won't help with sleep. It usually makes the child more frustrated and increases stress for you and family.
Typically this is because the bottle feeding has become a sleep association. It's not about what is in the bottle.
The big change will need to come from changing how little one gets to sleep at the very start of the night.
๐Ÿ˜ด sleep support needs to be fair for you and little one.
๐Ÿผ Skip the time wasting and increasing stress and go to a clear strategy.

This question comes up alot. In short like all sleep support this is your choice.
๐Ÿฆท1. If you are keeping the dummy. Work hard on making sure you are not needed through the night to put it back in. Practice self inserting in the day during tummy time. Little ones are fantastic with bringing items to their mouth.
Secondly put more dummies in the cot so it's easier to find.

๐Ÿงšโ€โ™‚๏ธ2. If you are going to ditch the dummy- cold turkey is best. It usually takes a few bad nights if it is strongly linked to sleep.

1. Add white noise -it could be an easy win worth trying.
2.Add a book at bedtime-its a great way of adding structure and building a routine without adding stress of a big change.
3. Stop blaming yourself. This won't help. If you can be kind it makes a big difference.

What have you tried?
One of the questions I ask parents is about what they have tried before coming to me. Often people have tried it all, been to their health visitor, followed advice from baby group friends and online information.
During our consultation we focus on education and explaining about sleep using an evidence based approach. When you are exhausted I want to be fair on you and your family.

Little ones wake 30 -45 minutes after going down to sleep typically due to a sleep association.
What is a sleep association?
This means whatever they had to get to sleep is no longer there such as the car moving/ cuddles with mum/ breastfeeding or rocking.
There are also positive sleep associations such as white noise or a dark room.
If you are happy to continue contact naps/ breastfeeding to sleep there is no wrong answer.

I get it. I remember feeling such a failure. I was expecting sleep to be hard but I just couldn't figure out how to make thinks better. I had gone to all the classes. I had breastfed on demand, read all the articles in the night hoping for an answer.

As parents we are all doing our best. Even with all the information when sleep deprived its really difficult to make changes.

I needed a clear written down plan backed with evidence and individual to me and my little one.

You are doing your best.

Dreading bedtime ? I used find it very difficult. At its best it would take over an hour and on a bad night much longer....

Dreading bedtime ? I used find it very difficult. At its best it would take over an hour and on a bad night much longer. I couldn't sleep as I was so upset or frazzled after bedtime and woke up tired dreading the next bedtime.
