I've been a bit quiet on here lately. Life has been a bit mad.

I wanted to bring the news that I have 3 Saturday classes left this year and then I have decided to no longer run my yoga classes at the Meeting House in the New Year.

It was such a hard decision as it's been such a beautiful space to teach in and a lovely community has been built around those classes ❀️ I will miss it so much.

But the time feels right to take a pause, take off the teaching hat for a bit and have some time to take care of myself a little better.

It would be great to see you for one of these last classes. The final class will be on Saturday 14th December πŸŽ„

What practices do I turn to in moments of stress and overwhelm?

Nadi Shodhana or Alternate nostril breathing is up there.

What a week. I'm looking for something compassionate and grounding in my practice and this is what I'll be teaching on Saturday morning. Along with some Nadi Shodhana to settle and soothe the nervous system.

It's almost 3 weeks time until my Yoga + Drawing workshop at the Friends Meeting House in Forest Hill!

Saturday 26th October
2pm - 4pm
Β£25

A fun creative mindful afternoon πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈβœοΈ ✨

- 45 mins of a grounding dynamic yoga class to bring you back to your body.
- Short break with tea + chocolate to refuel
- 1 hour of a relaxed drawing class with the wonderful model of holding various yoga poses for us (clothed!)

If you have never been to a drawing / life drawing class before are interested but a bit unsure about that bit, here's more of what you can expect:

πŸ”΅ We'll each be given a drawing board and some paper. Basic drawing materials will also be provided or you are welcome to bring any of your own.

πŸ”΅ We'll start off with some very quick poses to really loosen up and letting go of any idea of needing to be perfect.

πŸ”΅ For some of these quick poses I'll give suggestions of methods to get really playful e.g. drawing without looking at the paper, or drawing without pencil coming off the paper on a continuous line.

πŸ”΅ We'll gradually start to extend the time of the poses. But if you hate spending too much time on a drawing and want to start again then go with that!

πŸ”΅ This will really be an opportunity to get messy and enjoy the process of drawing real life model rather than focusing on the outcome.

Any questions, please reach out!

Yoga + Drawing workshop πŸ§˜πŸΌβ€β™€οΈβœπŸΌ

Very excited to tell you about a new workshop I've been planning, bringing together some of my two favourite things - yoga and drawing.

Back in the day, I studied Illustation at Uni and although not driven or commercially minded to turn into a career - I still love drawing. Just for me. And it works so well alongside yoga because it anchors the mind, taking you out of spiralling thoughts and into the present moment.

The real joy of it, is not being too precious about what ends up on the paper, but enjoying the mess and the process. That's what I want to celebrate in this workshop.

Saturday 26th October

2pm - 4pm, Β£25
Friends Meeting House

πŸ”΅ Begins with a dynamic yet accessible yoga class to warm up the body and calm the mental chatter.

πŸ”΅ Then we break to refuel with tea and chocolate

πŸ”΅ Followed by a relaxed drawing session. Our model will be the wonderful yoga teacher - holding various yoga postures.

πŸ”΅ No experience needed in either yoga or drawing to attend.

πŸ”΅ Paper and basic drawing materials provided

Taking a break and switching off (including my social media consumption!) for a couple of weeks. We are off to Scotland tomorrow and I can't wait to get out of the city for the fresh air, big skies and river swimming.

Wishing you a lovely rest of your August - back again teaching at the Meeting House on Saturday 31st August.

I've been mixing it up movement wise the last couple of weeks and focusing on a bit of strength training at home. This has meant less time for asana but I've been bringing back ten minutes of meditation in the evening almost every day.Β

Giving myself time to pause makes such a difference, I feel it immediately. Particularly through times of overwhelm and anxiety that I know so many of us are probably feeling. I thought I'd share how I like to meditate in case it inspires you to start a regular practice:

1. Choose a position that you can feel awake and alert with a tall spine. I like the supported hero pose in this drawing, sat up on a block. It helps to have your hips a little higher than your knees. You could also sit against a wall or sit on a firm chair.

2. Build up slowly, start with 2-5 minutes and gradually increase to what feels manageable for you.Β

3. I use Insight Timer app to time myself that uses nice gong/chime sounds at the beginning and end of your meditation.

4. You could start with a recorded guided meditation or use a simple method of watching the breath. I use a light focus on the exhale that Pema Chodron teaches in her book 'when things fall apart'.Β

5. Be kind to yourself. This is part of the practice - to know that it's human and normal for your mind to jump around or be thinking of something else for a while before you realize your attention has wandered. Just each time you notice, bring it back to your breath or whatever your focus is.

✍🏼 drawing by me for a series on meditation for the lovely
