5 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About Pregnancy ๐Ÿคฐ

๐Ÿšซ Myth: Morning sickness only happens in the morning
โœ… Truth: Nausea (and/or vomiting) during pregnancy can occur at any time of day ๐Ÿ•’, due to changes in your hormones. For most women, it's more common in the morning and begins to improve after 3 months. But for some women, it's different.

๐Ÿšซ Myth: Cream can help avoid stretch marks
โœ… Truth: There is no evidence that creams or oils can remove or prevent stretch marks, which often fade in time ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ.

๐Ÿšซ Myth: My heartburn means my baby has lots of hair
โœ… Truth: One small research study showed there might be a connection between having heartburn in pregnancy and the thickness of your baby's hair ๐Ÿผ. However, heartburn is quite common in pregnancy.

๐Ÿšซ Myth: I canโ€™t exercise, it will harm the baby
โœ… Truth: The more active and fit you are during pregnancy ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ, the easier it will be for you to adapt to your changing shape and weight gain. It will also help you to cope with labour. Keep up your normal daily physical activity or exercise (sport, running, yoga, dancing, or even walking to the shops and back) for as long as you feel comfortable. Exercise is not dangerous for your baby ๐Ÿคฑ. There is evidence that active women are less likely to experience problems in later pregnancy and labour. Always check with your GP if you have any concerns.

๐Ÿšซ Myth: I need to prepare my ni***es for breastfeeding
โœ… Truth: There is no evidence that you need to prepare or toughen your ni***es before birth ๐Ÿ‘ถ.

My 5 biggest regrets after my first born ๐Ÿ‘‡

- Not asking for support - I thought because Iโ€™d had a long battle to conceive that I needed to do all by myself

- Not resting as much as I should

- Not being kind to my body and not thanking it for all it had gone through over the past 9 months

- Listening to midwives and health visitors โ€˜(who were wrong) and not letting my intuition guide me

- Not having an emotional self-care plan in place for those tough days

Pregnancy, birth and early parenting are tough. So many emotions which are harder to navigate than the physical side.

Top 9 questions youโ€™ll ask yourself now you are finally pregnant ๐Ÿ’›

How will I cope with birth?
Will my baby be ok?
Will I be a good mother?
Will this change my relationship with my partner?
How will we manage for money?
Can I go back to work or education afterwards?
Will I still have a life of my own?
Will a previous pregnancy problem happen again?
Will something that Iโ€™ve done/eaten/drunk harm the baby?

9 harsh truths about early parenthood ๐Ÿ’›

1. Itโ€™s lonely
2. It will be 10 times harder than you think
3. It will affect your relationship with your partner
4. The sleep deprivation is a killer
5. You will feel you've lost your identity
6. At times will you hate it
7. You will be judged by others who think they โ€˜knowโ€™ best
8. You will be unkind to your body (even though itโ€™s just grown a human being for 9 months)
9. You will miss the life you had before becoming a Mum

Far too many women enter parenthood (especially after infertility and loss) thinking it will be magical. It is, but you need to dose of reality too.

Preparing and planning for early parenthood is key to being able to manage all the emotions that comes with it.

โŒ It's a Holiday - This is perhaps the most common misconception. A break from work doesnโ€™t mean youโ€™re lounging about. Looking after a newborn is demanding and relentless work.

โŒ You'll Have Loads of Spare Time - With a newborn? Think again! Itโ€™s a 24/7 commitment.

โŒ It's Just for the Mums - Dads can and should get involved too. They also need time to bond with their baby and support their partners.

โŒ Youโ€™ll Instinctively Know Everything - Not true. There will be days filled with self-doubt. Remember, it's alright to seek help.

โŒ You Canโ€™t Discuss the Tough Bits - Itโ€™s not all rosy. Speak out, share, and lean on your support network. Many will relate.
