Vitalograph is proud to sponsor the 2025 Foundational Spirometry Workshop. Delivered by the Pan African Thoracic Society (PATS) under the ATS–PATS MECOR Programme (PATS MECOR).

The workshop welcomed 17 students from 14 countries, a truly pan-African cohort spanning clinical services, occupational health and research. Many arrived with limited or no access to reliable equipment and standardised quality control (QC), but left with a shared language for quality, a practical grasp of international standards, and the momentum to improve spirometry where it matters most—at the point of care.

Anyone who knows Vitalograph knows we have a love of animals, especially dogs. Our fabulous pooches are regularly the topic of water-cooler conversation, and we all appreciate the mental and physical health benefits they bring to our lives. However, we are acutely aware that domestic animals can be off limits for many asthma sufferers.

🐶 That's why this article caught our attention. A study presented at last week’s ERS Congress has found that Indoor dog allergens may protect young children from developing asthma.

"Our findings highlight the potential protective role of dog allergens, but we need to do more research to understand the link between early-life exposure to dog allergens, lung function, and asthma during early childhood," says Jacob McCoy, M.D., from the Hospital for Sick Children & Research Institute in Toronto, where the study was conducted.

Rethinking cough metrics 💡

Watch Dr. Terence Taylor introduce our poster from the European Respiratory Society Congress (ERS) last week. This exploratory research used Axalbion Therapeutics' AX-8 clinical trial data measuring cough bouts.

Many patients report that cough bouts have a greater impact on daily life than isolated coughs. As interest in cough bout analysis grows, these new insights are helping redefine how we measure and understand treatment benefit in chronic cough.
