Celebrating Chinese New Year at St Ives Lodge 🧧

This week we’ve been enjoying lots of lovely Chinese New Year celebrations with our residents.
11 residents went out for a Chinese lunch and thoroughly enjoyed themselves plenty of good food, good chats and lots of laughter! When we returned, everyone was still talking about how much they’d enjoyed the outing.

Yesterday a few of our residents also attended Teas & Tunes where they enjoyed afternoon tea, cake and some wonderful entertainment.

Thomas went out to the coffee cafe for a Latte and Muffin.

Around the home we’ve been getting creative too, making beautiful lanterns and lots of arts and crafts to decorate and celebrate the occasion.

Tomorrow our chef will be preparing a homemade Chinese meal for all residents and staff we’re really looking forward to it. It’s been a joyful week full of smiles, creativity and togetherness! 🏮

What a Busy and Beautiful Few Weeks at St Ives Lodge Care Home

The last few weeks have been full of energy, laughter, and wonderful moments just the way we like it. Our residents have enjoyed a wide range of activities supporting mobility, wellbeing, creativity, and social connection. From singing sessions and quizzes to poetry reading, reminiscence time, and plenty of dancing, there has truly been something for everyone.

Valentine’s Day was especially heart-warming. Our staff went above and beyond to make the day special, and the smiles said it all. Residents also got wonderfully creative for Valentine’s Day, making and painting their own little wooden flowers each one unique and absolutely beautiful. We finished the celebrations with a fun game of Valentine’s Bingo, complete with prizes and plenty of laughter. It was lovely to see everyone joining in and enjoying the moment day. A romantic setting was made by carers for a special couple and served a lovely meal for our Valerie and her partner, lots of laughter, and she looked every bit the queen she is. Moments like these remind us why we do what we do. We celebrated her birthday and her family enjoyed making memories together.

Our memory care unit has been enjoying sensory activities including baby therapy, soft lighting, music, touch and scent sessions all designed to comfort, stimulate, and bring joy. The weekly “Songs and Smiles” baby visits are always a huge hit, and seeing the residents’ faces light up is priceless.

We were also delighted to welcome children from the local nursery who brought flowers for everyone on Valentine’s Day, such a simple gesture that meant so much. Inter-generational moments like these truly warm the heart.

Residents have also been out and about enjoying fresh air with local walks, coffee shop visits, and pub lunches wrapped up warm and making the most of every outing. Back at home we’ve had visiting singers, Tea & Tunes Tuesdays, crafts, colouring, and preparations are already underway for Chinese New Year celebrations with decorations and a special themed meal from our chef.

We are incredibly proud of our team as well. Congratulations to Toni, Marcella and Victoria for their recent Employee Awards well deserved recognition for the kindness, dedication, and extra touches they bring every day. Our care manager continues to show appreciation for staff with regular treats and thank-yous, because a happy team creates a happy home.

It’s been full, lively, and joyful as always and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Please enjoy looking through the photos and sharing these special moments with us.
