What defines an arm balance? I believe we embody a pose the moment an intention arises and we commit to that intention. By this standard, we can be relieved of the pressure to fulfil the aesthetic requirements of an asana, and focus on the inner journey. This reveals the difference between intention and expectation. In this case, the most intense moment is when both feet are still on the ground: the ‘floating’ (exhale) is a byproduct of that moment of tension and intention (inhale), and in many ways it is far more effortless than the moment of preparation and grounding, which is already an arm balance in effect
