Take a look at this wonderful story from a family I supported. Breastfeeding Twins and Triplets UK Public Page is a fabulous charity I’m pleased to support and work with.
If you have twins or triplets in and around Surrey, do know you can reach out for support.
We are sharing the stories of families who have had support with feeding their twins or triplets. We are celebrating them and the journey they have been on! We're showing how our work has made a real difference in families lives.
Thank you for sharing your stories with us... today we hear from Kerry...
"I had my MCDA girls (identical twins that share a placenta but have separate amniotic sacs) in August this year. I had little expectation of breastfeeding but wanted to give it a go.
It has been a rollercoaster physically and mentally. The emotional attachment to breastfeeding surprised me the most, I didn't expect to want to do it so much.
I was sent home from hospital triple feeding, using ni**le shields. With no plan, strategy and some misguided advice, I was really struggling to keep on top of it all. I was then getting concerned with latch, supply, overfeeding, under feeding, feeding at home, feeding whilst out and about. All of it! I also had a feeling of shame that I wasn't able to give my girls enough directly.
At around 10 weeks I sought the advice of a local lactation consultant, Emma at More Than Milk. Working with Emma in that session and subsequent support I have become a lot more relaxed, empowered and confident with my feeding. We combi feed to a schedule and system that works for us. We're now at 15 weeks and my supply is great and I feel much more confident. Most importantly the girls are happy, healthy and growing well.
I have now been breastfeeding my twins for 3.5 months, way beyond my initial goal of 2 weeks and don't have plans to give up. This is beyond what I expected and I am so proud I got to this stage.
I have a healthier attitude to my feeding.
Breastfeeding and formula provide different things, and both have their place.
The support from the (Breastfeeding Twins and Triplets) Facebook group has been invaluable, thorough and encouraging. Even watching others posts and comments has given me so much insight and guidance. And the 121 help with my local consultant really helped finesse our feeding journey."
