Hello 👋 it's my 20-year-old self.

Obsessing about reaching an exact number on the scale, and completely forgetting about my overall health 🤦‍♀️

Who cares if you are stressed, haven't had a proper night's sleep in weeks, and survive on protein shakes and lettuce.

We obsess over reaching a body ideal, but we often forget these goals change over time 🕰️

From the androgynous figures of the 1920s to the ultra-thin bodies of the 90s, and the hourglass ⌛ curves of the mid-century pinups (which are currently back in trend), body ideals come and go with the seasons.

So why do we give them so much weight? Pun intended.

😎 Growth mindset:
- Today I feel really sore and tired. I will listen to my body and take the day off. Tomorrow is another day. No big deal.

🤦‍♀️ Perfectionist mindset:
— I will only eat broccoli and tofu for the next 2 months. Not even a drop of olive oil. Definitely no chocolate. And drink 4 litres of water daily.

Kill me now ☠️

😎 Growth mindset:
— I include vegetables in most of my meals and balance them out with my favourite foods. I improve my portion sizes and emphasize variety in food sources.

When we force ourselves into strict regimens and suck all the pleasure out of our life, we end up feeling miserable 😩 — because the rules suck of course, and because we beat ourselves for not being able to stick to them.

Instead, we could appreciate the journey, with its ups and downs, taking each setback as a learning opportunity 🧑‍🎓

Trust that by learning from our mistakes, and practising self-compassion, we slowly but surely improve and reach our goals 🎯

And most important create a lifestyle that doesn't make us want to never leave our bed in the morning.

I remember when I first thought I was fat. I was 13.

In this series of blog articles, I will explore some mistakes I have made while losing 5️⃣ 0️⃣ kg naturally, and the lessons learned by regaining 30 of them.

No. 1️⃣ : Jumping on all the trendy diets.

"Lose 12 lbs this month", "Burn 200 calories in just 3 minutes!" reads a cover of Health Magazine from back in 2013.

Can you see the problem? This is how we enter an infinite game of yo-yo dieting, weight regains and often disordered eating behaviours.

😕 So... What to do instead ❓

Start with you. What makes you drool? 🤤 Stop looking at what other people are doing. You are a grown-up. Create your own diet.

Have fun recreating your favourite "comfort" 🍔 foods into less-processed home-cooked versions.

Balance them with lots of vegetables, fruits 🥑, nuts and seeds, legumes and whole grains.

Think long term. How would your 95 years old self 👵 feel if they knew you spent your life being miserable restricting your diet?

1️⃣ THE SHOES⁠

No need for a fancy brand, but you definitely want shoes that are made for running, i.e. with proper cushioning and support to protect your knees, ankles and feet! ⁠

Need help choosing? 😕 Many running shops offer a free analysis of your legs’ movements and feet placement while running and have trained staff to help you choose the right pair for your specific running needs.⁠

2️⃣ THE PLAYLIST⁠

When I ran my first 5k race, my coach told me to create my own playlist carefully. I built it crescendo, with the most energetic soundtracks towards my expected finishing time, to get that kick of perseverance when things get painful 😮‍💨. And it worked! I finished 3 minutes faster than expected! 🎉 ⁠

Search your streaming platform for its pre-made running playlists: there are options for all distances and music genres! I love Spotify’s ‘00s Pop run’!⁠

3️⃣ THE COMPANY⁠

If you are desperate for some quiet ‘me time’ where you can let your thoughts run free and not talk to anyone (I get it!), go ahead. However, a partner can help you stay motivated and accountable, and make sure you don’t snooze that alarm ⏰ and go back to bed.⁠

4️⃣ THE ROUTE⁠

Running outdoors will make your run so much more fun (not like staring at a blank treadmill screen!). You’ll breath in fresh air and possibly discover new areas in your city. It will also make you a better runner as the uneven path and occasional obstacles (think trees, old ladies and dog 💩) will make you work more on your balance and step 👣 work. ⁠

5️⃣ THE PACE⁠

Endurance is built over time. It is absolutely normal not to be able to run a certain distance non-stop from the first go. The great thing about running is that with regular practice you can see the results of an improved cardiovascular health 🫀 quite fast. So don’t get discouraged if the first few sessions are hard!⁠

Invest in your dreams 💭.
Believe in what you do, and make the jump to go from idea 💡 to reality.

If you fall, learn from it. If you succeed, learn from it.

When, at the peak of the pandemic, I decided to completely change career after almost 10 years in luxury travel, I went all in and heavily invested time and money in reinventing my life.
As expected there have been many ups and downs, moments of euphoria and doubts. But overall I am excited about the future and believe in my core that I was meant to do this.

As a child, I dreamed I would one day become both a powerful business woman 👩🏻‍💼, and a humanitarian worker without borders. What it meant is that I wanted (and still do) to have a meaningful and positive impact on the world and to help people reach their full wellness potential and be happy. The career path might be different but the purpose hasn’t changed.

While experience has taught me that I can accomplish anything if I put my mind to it, I am also human and things take time. This is why I have decided to delay the official launch of by a few months in order to finish a few on-going projects first, before dedicating myself completely to Holsom.

That being said, it was time to take another step forward and find myself a proper office. This is it.
