Your brain predicts the environment, it _doesn’t react passively_ to it. This is a multi-sensory process of sound, vision, temperature, touch, vestibular (movement) and interroception (internal sensations).
*Why does this matter when it comes to learning?*
Prediction errors are how you learn! When discrepancies are detected between what you expect and what actually occurs, your brain _should_ readjust to keep homeostasis. This is not always successful, which is why you might find it difficult to regulate and therefore get distracted.
Examples include: dislike of certain noises, limited food or texture choices, uncomfortable in certain clothing, sensitive to bright lights, intolerant of movement and motion sickness.
The Tomatis®️ method uses a Gating®️ system which gives ‘sound perception contrasts’ to keep the brain interested. *This actually trains the brain to accept differences in the environment without emotional response.*
When you complete a Tomatis®️ listening intensive you are training your brain to achieve regulation and to pay attention to learning opportunities without the distraction. Powerful stuff.
Sound matters!
